The Fishing Thread

16lb is a hell of a fish! Well done you.

Appreciated Mate.
Going to have another go Monday 🎣

Sorting out traces and gear this afternoon.
I am looking to experiment with some “pop up” Mackerel and try the other end of the Reservoir 🎣
However Sardines on the bottom are working.

You wouldn’t want to stick your hand in that mouth !!

I’ve just stocked up on a load of frozen bait so I have frozen blacks, cart, mussel and squid. Means I am ready to go and don’t need to go to the shop to get fresh stuff.

Note to local anglers - the building site at South Shields pier was being removed today. They have reached the stop point for work this year and according to the head man there they are not opening the pier to the public until 2025.

Nice one Mate.
Went in Morrison’s this Morning. Clearly too late as someone purchased the 2 crates of Sardines they had in. Tipped off, I need to get in for 9am.
I did manage to get 6 small mackerel though.

I caught a load of small mackerel this summer but returned all but two which we ate.

I like to think they might return bigger next year.

Love fresh Mackerel.

When I return fish I always hope they will get bigger.
I still have a few big Mackerel in the freezer from last year. Only problem when Pike fishing with these they are far tougher than Sardines and Herring thus you can often drop a fish on a run.

Keep us posted mate 🎣
I’m starting to get itchy feet with regards to Norway it might be time to book 😂😂

That sounds class.

Where do you fish in Norway?
Bodo / salstraumen mate.

Best place on earth. It’s stole my
Heart that country 😂😂
Never been but seen photos of monster fish there. Must be amazing fishing.
It was absolutely abysmal this year when I went I febraary mate but that’s fishing it won’t and can’t always be good.

I’ve caught and seen some ridiculous fish caught.

Oh aye, now I remember. I think I've spoken to you before about Salstraumen and another similar place about 30km further south that not many people know about, Kjellingstraumen. I was heading up that way in July on my bike and I had a small telescopic rod and a few lures to do a bit fishing but ran out of time and only.got as far as Trondheim. Maybe next year.

We have mate aye.

I’m scared to go back in February like because of the weather. I’m getting too soft for it 😂😂😂

In regards to Kjellingstraumen I’ve came across it quite a few times when scouting about in Google earth for new potential marks

What have you ever caught out of there? Just the usual?

I’ve been watching some underwater videos of pike investigating dead baits. It’s really intriguing. I thought they would steam in and smash them but no. They are very cagey around the baits. I’ll see if I can find them again and post them for you.

Cod, Haddock, coalfish, the usual. Me and the wife stopped at Kjellingstraumen camp site for the night and the camp site had a couple of little 12ft boats with outboards for hire so we got one and fished east of the bridge. We only had little telescopic spinning rods with us so were limited to what we could catch. Every drop produced a fish, all between 3-6lb, anything bigger would have snapped our rods but there were bigger fish there. One time as I pulled in a cod of about 4lb a massive white mouth came up behind it and tried to seize it. At first I shit myself as I thought it was a shark coming up but then realised it was only a massive cod. Kjellingstraumen is like a little Salstraumen with a few whirlpools but nothing like as big salstraumen.
