The Fishing Thread

Did the walking trail around Nepean yacht club earlier, all the boats are in dry-Dock as the moorings freeze solid, saw this guy sitting in his ice-tent, shouted over to him, he had only been there 30 minutes so hadn't caught yet.

Now that is brave.
When I was a kid I braved the cold going fishing. Many a times Pike fishing on the Thames with ice on the margins.
Now I just couldn’t do that.

Do the fish retreat into marinas for the winter?
I think it's more to do with depth and underwater features Jeff, the river just off the marina is huge, some parts are 90+ metres deep, your fishing with an 18 inch ice-rod for manoeuvrability in your tent, and a tiny reel, a friend of mine in Alberta caught a burbot last week.
This is the river, Quebec on the other side.

Ugly stik were, maybe still are, renown boat rods when I used to go wrecking, I think I will get the spinning kit 🎣
Exactly what i thought, boats rods, but on a bit of research I also saw all the spinning gear.

Boat rods are sticks anyway. I fished with two lads who used a boat around Filey Brig and they loaned me a rod that was about 4 feet long made of hickory and matched with a Scarborough reel.

Worked absolutely fine, had zero flex but dragged stuff up no bother.
