The Fishing Thread

Davie Mcphail's videos are brilliant, whenever I want a new pattern his youtube page is now my first point of call, the things I've learnt from him have helped me over the years, I saw a video of his fly tying room yesterday and I thought I had a lot of materials until I saw what he has.
I have a pal who is a pro-tier for Partridge and Semperfli, he showed me all sorts of tricks.
My fly tying requirements are pretty straightforward. I’ve worked out what works for me and tie them, not a massive amount of stuff I won’t use.

plus I am fortunate to know a lad who ties more complex stuff so if I do need some ”klink and dink” for example I get them off him.

I've tied Deer Hair Mice, I'll have to hunt it out and post it on here, yes those look very much like the one's I got in the Swap, over here the only way to get Wild Salmon is to either have a friend that fishes or catch them yourself, it's illegal to sell it in the UK.

I find deer hair tricky to tie. I struggle to get the thread to bite into it without it rotating round the hook.

Remember to remove any under fur, I find that holding it tight along the top of the hook shank and holding both the hair and the hook when I'm tying Hogs helps, try by using loose pinch and loop turns of the thread for the first couple of turns then tighten down, for spun Deer hair like in those mice or for Muddlers, rotating is what you will want.
tying winged wets is where I struggle
Here is a video.
