The Fishing Thread

Better out fishing than sitting at home. Nice to hear of a few codling getting caught.
Aye theres a few showing along marsden way at the minute like but still a bit early for hendon/ whitburn/ ryhope where i fish the most. Theyll hopefully start to show in a couple of weeks. Just need the sea to get away and they should be there

When you catch them from the shore I guess there is a weight / size you have to return them?
What size can you get from the shore, anything decent?

Codling/ cod have to be over 35cm.

The terrain up here isnt very friendly for returning fish though tbh and when fishing cliffs its impossible to return any fish alive so ultimately you are throwing them back dead which is shit.

When fishino beaches or marks where its easy to return them i put them all back tbh unless theyre deep hooked and wouldnt survive anyway

I think a few years ago I saw a report from Terry W that some bloke got a cod of 27lbs off marsden beach. I have never seen anything anywhere near that in my life.
That was Alan Chapman, knows Whitburn like the back of his hand. Also known as the Whitburn ghost, as you can be fishing there one night, you turn around and he's standing next to you - he done it me before and I nearly fell off the Wherry.

Might not be a bad shout for wednesday the wherry

Great forecast this week, it'll rip all the summer weed growth out.

Had some nice fish there. Strange place though, when it's dead there's absolutely nothing, your bait comes back untouched.
Aye if that forecast is right and it gets as big as forecast i might have a look at the mudhole or somewhere like.
