The Fishing Thread

My second home in the late mid/late 80's early 90's, fishing the matches over there. Loved the Peever two dayer, used to be some right states fishing the 2nd day after a few socials on the Saturday night
Is it true that people used to carry massive bags of doggies etc across them fields to the weigh in or am I getting mixed up with somewhere else 😂😂😂😂

Aye. I had 42lb of fish one year and managed 4th

Winner had 99lb from the foxes snoot. He had to make 2 trips with all his fish. It crippled me taking my fish back to the car in blazing hot sunshine.

Used to be some good fish weighed in up there though, smoothies, thornys, Tope, Pollack, I even had a 3lb plaice one year.

I think I’d rather blank to be honest than do two trips with that amount of fish 😂😂😂😂
True. Dobbie weighed in nearly 150lb once.
I remember stringer saying “I’ve only got the one but it’s strapped to the top of the car”
Aye I’ve heard some good stories about stringer on the flat rock at balcary

Supposedly he had three fish for over 100lb in its heyday 😳

He got washed off one night and only got out because he had hold of someone’s line. Very lucky

That’s right. Used to smoke 40 fags every match.
All them Newcastle lads were canny. For mags anyway.

Aye they still are I still fish with a load them they’re all sound lads to be fair like.

Some absolutely unbelievable anglers among them like.

The north east has some of the best match fisherman in the country like
Very true. A lot fish or have fished for England.
I broke into the top 100 (penn points) about 15 year ago.
Mind I was fishing comps 3 times a week. Loved it. Then got into pond fishing (matches) for about 3 year.
Is he on a par with wazzer leason marra?

Wayne leason man. One of the top anglers on the holderness coast.
He's had some beauties out Ower the years.

Still think Alan Chapman is the top boy in the whitburn area..

Stringer was a legend along the northeast coast mind.
Saw him in action once at whitley Bay & it was a fish a chuck.

Really? Fished with him on white rocks a few times.
I used to be a member of whitburn angling club so I used to fish a lot of the haunts around there.

Think he got the record fish from white rocks. 28lb, maybe heavier. Gordon happer helped land it.

Miss the rock edge fishing although I am starting to learn the Scarborough marks.

I think I’d rather throw myself over the top than attempt to fish some of them Scarborough marks like I’d be a trembling wreck they’re f***ing mad going down some of them 😂😂😂😂

Everytime I see him pop up on the fishing pages he always seems to be trying to rub some fucker up the wrong way

Heard he’s a hell of a fisherman/ caster like but I don’t know him.

Few of my mates do like

Lol i only fish Holbeck, cornelian & Cloughton Wyke.

Would never go on marine drive & climb Ower the railings.

Aye he's a good angler mate is leason but a big headed fooker who loves himself.

Has a knack of catching big fish but he never broadcasts the blanks he's had. Could be down there 7 nights a week.

Catching those Chub right between the second and third stack.
Get it short a massive snag.
Only wanted luncheon meat. Tried pellet and boilee paste nothing for 3 hours then switched bait and started catching.
My Mate was the in swim downstream and struggled.

The Wye is also a decent Salmon and Trout River.

What a stunning River and place. You definitely learn and a new water.
Hoping to get a day on the Severn with another Mate. Big Baggies fan @Boinger.

Love my fishing. Takes away the shite from Supporting Swindon.

Aye, it was his mate's line (John Bohill) which he grabbed, very lucky bloke.

Knew Alan from when Dave Bolam used to have Tennicks in Sunderland, fished with him a few times on the boats with Davy, top bloke. I was fishing the top of the Wherry one night, when out of nowhere he asked me if I'd caught owt - never seen him coming, nearly fell off the cliff, but apparently I wasn't the only one he done it to

The North east brought up some great anglers in the 80's, Jim Dobie and Alec Harvery were unbelievable anglers then. I fished next to Jim in the Isle of man festival in 84 as a 18 year old lad, learnt loads from him, so much so I won my zone on the last day. It was a pleasure to fish the opens then, watching the likes of Stringer, Bob Gascoigne, Arthur Smeaton etc ply their trade.

Aye Dave Bolam still has a boat in the marina moored next to me dars.
Some cracking anglers there like.

Haha Alan was the whitburn ghost alreet..

Fishing Jackie's beach 1 neet & I only had one cod. Chappa comes down 3 in 5 casts. Biggest 7lb. Then went to the pipe end & got another 4. He knew the ground like the back of his hand.

Amazing what you can pick up fishing with a top angler
