Shearers record was excellent at Blackburn, but it could be argued he only had 4 good seasons out of 10 at Newcastle. And also for such a prolific domestic player his goals per game record for England was poor. Not saying he was crap for England but he should have been better than people like Peter crouch.

He was phenomenal until his first serious injury at the Mags under Dogleash. Then he went right off the boil till Sir Bobby sorted him out. He was class again albeit as a different type of player but at that stage he was behind the likes of Henry, Van Nistlerooy, Rooney, Drogba.

A truly ridiculous article that could be applied to any player to have played the game.

To play along, however 🙂, what about Phillips in his prime? £150 million??

To be fair, if I could play for Sunderland and England, earn an absolute fortune and be worshipped by my home fans, I wouldn’t really care about trophies.

She-ra probably agreed with you, that is why he didn't win much after Blackburn.

Or perhaps he hated Ferguson, or was just stupid...

It's what the headlines states - I'm not reading that garbage, the headline figure says it all -worth more than twice as much as Henry...wye aye!
It doesn’t. It says how much they would cost

So they’ve inflation adjusted £15m in 1995 for Shearer. And £11m for Henry in 1999

It’s a pointless article, but it’s not looking at value/worth

The Athletic is another that’s standards are massively slipping. Too many mag journalists amongst them and too many articles on one of their ‘journalists’ playing as Newcastle on football manager and updating us all on his progress. No wonder I keep getting emails to sign up for £12 for the whole year

Fantastic player and one of the better pundits. Always thought he was very fair in his assessment of us on MOTD.

Seems the greatest goalscorers dont end up with the games biggest medal hauls. Greaves holds record of pre=Premier goals in top flight and he never won a title. Kane looks most likely to get nearest to Shearer Premier record and he not yet won a proper medal. Shearer got the one title.
