Team/Squad as it stands

there's a difference between aiming and spending though. i'm all for back to back promotions but i wouldnt want to see us spunking money up the wall trying to get into the premiership, or staying there if by some miracle we went up.

i'd be perfectly happy with mid table next season, if we got promoted to the premiership i'd expect relegation and use the surprise cash injection to put the club in a better position, rather than gambling going back to square one debt wise
I know what you are saying but life's too short mate. Grab every opportunity we possibly can. You don't have to spend millions to get out of this league but we should definitely be aiming for promotion amd not consolidation, what Speakman was talking about other week and dampening supporters expectations.

...get away man. So you wouldn't want the joy or euphoria of makimg it to the big time after watching 4 yrs of Fleetwood, Accrington Stanley, Wimbledon etc?...aye lets just hang around mid table because we are scared of going up again. Bloody hell, bet you are a load of joy at a party🤣;)

I was as disappointed as anyone when Mickey Gray missed the penalty at Wembley. However, we then went on to achieve 105 points the next season and were far more ready for the Premiership because of that extra year.

With that in mind, I think we need to build a squad to dominate the Championship to give us the best chance of avoiding a one season stay in the Premiership.

You are right that I am not much of a partygoer.😉

..neither am i tbh🤣

you think? i'd be perfectly happy with at least one of those stepping up, i'd love to add one quality name to that bunch. but at absolute worst i could live with them if we added REAl quality in other areas.

at CB we have danny batth and that's it. i'd say thats far far far far far more important to get sorted!
CB is more important but it’s more straightforward, we just need to bring more in. Centre mid is already stocked but I think we’ll offload one or two. I think we’d struggle if they were our only options though.

We have the makings of a decent squad with lots of fairly inexperienced players in Patterson , Cirkin , Neil , Embleton, Huggins we have quality in Stewart & players like Roberts & Pritchard who have maybe lost their way a bit , found a new stage & have a lot of people to maybe prove wrong . I think with a few more shrewd buys we’ll Surprise a few .

We seem to be getting players who see SAFC as a step up where they can actually develop & get better as opposed to signing players who’s attitude is that they’re “doing us a favour”

Didn’t we play QPR and look just as good as them? And that was when they were on form too. Both sides put out a first team and it looked like an upper championship game of football.

I think people dramatise the jump in difficulty from league one to championship. I’d argue our players are better suited to championship football than league one football.
f***ing hell. History teaches you nothing.

Why would we sign a player who is not going to improve the team?
We did this all the time 2016 to 2021

Under KLD / Speakman we've had a far better success rate admittedly in the third tier. Let's see if their methods work the Championship.

...................Patterson.................
Gooch....?????......Batth...Cirkin
...............Evans......O'Nien..........
Embleton.....Roberts...Pritchard
......................Stewart.................

Subs: Hume, Huggins, Winchester, Matete, Neil, Dajaku, Diamond

Coming together nicely still need at least 2 centre backs, 2 forwards, a GK & another 2 wingers/attacking midfielders imo
Pretty good skeleton to be building from. Going off the current rumours, if we re-sign Wright, Clarke, bring in Rudoni or Morrison, and Ballard or Sanderson we can field a solid 11 and only really need GK, CB, CF.

I am sure everyone would feel more comfortable with a third CF, and anything beyond that is a bonus.

Patterson
Winchester, Ballard, Batth, Cirkin
Evans, Rudoni
Roberts, Pritchard, Clarke
Stewart

Bench (7 from): GK, Wright, CB, Hume, O'Nein, Huggins, Matete, Neil, Embo, Dajaku, Gooch, CF

We need 2 CBS a keeper lb 2 strikers and another 1 or two wingers plus cms

We need the defensive side sorted. We definitely need another CB on top of Wright and Batth. Also a LB. I'd be happy enough with Huggins at RB.

Broadhead and Clarke returning would be a big boost. Another keeper as back il to Patterson. I fully trust our young lads.

A LB certainly wouldn't hurt. If we get Clarke, I can't see us signing any more wingers without getting shot of someone. Clarke and Roberts will be starters, with Gooch, Dajaku, and Embleton as back up.

Ideally we could sign a player who can play on the wing or up front to cover 3rd striker and add quality out wide.

Wouldn't call embleton a winger and are gooch and dajaku good enough? Theirs even question marks over Clarke

I wouldn't call Embleton a natiral winger either, but he can certainly cover out there if needed.

AN must rate Gooch, and I assume he wasn't signed up to be a full time RB.

Hard to say about Dajaku, he had his moments last season. If AN doesn't rate him we might sign another winger, but then squad management might be an issue.

Might be a controversial one, but I don’t think there’s many better players in champ than Broadhead, Clarke, Roberts, Stewart and Pritchard…tin hat on!
Broadhead and pritchard are very injury prone. Personally i’m not desperate to see broadhead back for that reason alone.

Stewart I really think could do well at this level.

Roberts really came good end of last season but has played championship level before and not set the world on fire.

Clarke was inconsistent even at league 1 level

Clarke improved as the season went on though. Which is understandable as he hadnt played much

I wasnt sure at first but without a doubt i’d like him back, he got better and better. Still only 21
