Team/Squad as it stands

I wouldn't call Embleton a natiral winger either, but he can certainly cover out there if needed.

AN must rate Gooch, and I assume he wasn't signed up to be a full time RB.

Hard to say about Dajaku, he had his moments last season. If AN doesn't rate him we might sign another winger, but then squad management might be an issue.
I'd have gooch as back up for Huggins and loan Hume out, as a winger gooch should be nowhere near the starting lineup I get what you are saying about embleton and dajaku I just think we need a bit more quality

Can't argue against more quality.

I do think a winger who can play up top would solve a couple of issues.

We need a GK, two centre backs and a striker in terms of actually covering positions, everything after that is cosmetic imo.
Agreed. Maybe not cosmetic, but more about adding the sort of quality/options that could see us thrive. Would like to add a little more quality in central midfield and pace into defence plus give ourselves options in that attacking area. But with a first team squad that is already on course for 18 without any new signings coming in, we have to be a bit choosy. Once the squad size goes north of 25 we’re gonna struggle to keep players sharp and engaged. At least we can use 5 subs this season to compensate a bit.
You mean like Neil, Matete, Winchester and Embleton?

If theyre just competition for onien
Don’t think we’ll see CW play there apart from in emergencies. I’d definitely like to see a dominant midfielder come in - unless we happen to see either Neil or Matete take a big leap.

At present we’re weaker than we were at season’s end. Six weeks to not only get us back to parity but actually strengthen significantly. We need to otherwise it’ll be a tough old slog

While i would like a Rudoni style midfielder to sign i feel like we desperately need at least 3 positions much more. Im not against signing such a player as long as it doesnt kill the budget for a striker, goalkeeper and 2 centre backs

Agreed. I’d probably want an Onien replacement in that deeper position ahead of a JR type too. Think we can probably go with an older keeper on a free, though. I’d be okay with AP getting a proper go at it.

Who were our 4 under Neil? Can only think of Doyle, Batth and Wright. Unless I'm missing someone obvious.

You could argue Arby, but he was never really under consideration.
Coz cirkin and Winchester played you can't just go into a season with 3

You’d have a lad that’s played Championship and Premierleague football; and who was instrumental to our successful run-in last season, as a back up to a lad that’s played 2 games for us since his time being here? Give owa.

Yes Huggins is very highly rated and it's his natural position people forget how poor gooch was a lot of the season

Niall Huggins has played 3 games of senior football. Lynden Gooch has played over 200 including USMNT games, premier league and championship games. Gooch hit some poor form, but was a mainstay in the managers team that actually got us out of league one.

By your logic no young players would play

I think we will bring in at least 4 new faces who are championship level , Neil knows the league and is not naive to what's needed, he also doesnt come across as the type who will want to make up the numbers , he will want to challenge for a top six finish and we won’t be near that with current squad

For me this is how we look:

_____________ Patterson ____________

???/ ______ ??? ______ Batth ______ Cirkin
Huggins/
Gooch

________ O’Nein/ _____ Evans/ ________
______ Winchester _____ Neill

Roberts/ ____ Pritchard/ ______ Embleton/
Dajaku/ _____ Embleton/ ______ Dajaku/
Gooch/ _______ Dajaku ________ Gooch/
Diamond ____________________ Diamond

_____________ Stewart

It’s obvious to me that we need to strengthen all over the park but mostly in defence with at least 1 goalkeeper, right back and left back, 2 CB, a striker and probably a holding midfielder.

The only place I don’t think we need to strengthen is on the wings and attacking midfield.

Yeah they would, they’d get opportunities to prove their worth either through sub appearances or necessity as has been the case in the past. Not ousting a veteran player, deemed important by the gaffa, after barely kicking a ball at all.
