Takeover Rumours

Better academy, spruced up buildings, more maintenance on the stadium, technological improvements, more coaches, better and more scouts, improved sponsorship deals...

Ive got a dumb question / asking for a friend:

I’m trying to get a sense of the benefit a new wealthy owner is. How are infrastructure upgrades such as the above and investment into the playing staff typically funded?

Under Short, we borrowed some and Short personally put up the rest, but the club always owed this back to Short. I would assume the same will happen under the new owners. So is the only real benefit MSD will offer over SD/CM is the ability to borrow from the owner at 0% interest in lieu of having to go to the market for capital?

maybe he's just trying to temper people's expectations?

I'm slightly surprised how excited people are getting. Surely reading the football press shows how quickly takeover attempts can fall apart. It isn't being anti-Sunderland in mentioning that sort of thing, just being realistic.

It will be hard for this to be a bad thing if it does all work out, but the 'scarf above the head' is a good phrase to sum up a sensible approach.

The fact that they were at the match yesterday and have apparently been in the city for a while suggests that we're past the stage where things normally fall apart. Where both parties are keen to get a deal done, it's unusual for things to go awry at the last minute. If due diligence has been done, it should just be a matter of completing the formalities. Of course, deals can collapse, but its very unusual where there's goodwill on both sides.

Exactly right, think the problem is a lot of our fans cant believe this could happen to us.If i had their wealth and was looking to the nou camp within 5 years ,this is the club i would buy.I know i know but look how much they will be paying for a club who can still draw crowds like us.Nominal outlay at first then who knows .....

This lad knows ^

If you’re after a vanity sports project you buy us, Leeds, Forest or Sheff Wed.

Low outlay. And the world’s your oyster. Decent fan bases, decent history, nice stories attached to all. You can certainly make cash and become a hero.

The problem with investment in the Mags is the initial outlay. They’ll be sold next time they go down and they’re worth less than they are now.

They could invest by increasing the share capital. This is actually what the Mansours have done at City. City don't owe them a penny, but their share capital has gone up by more than £500m since they bought them.

Please don't take this the wrong way but it's none of his business ...

... who is he to tell other people what to do?

I've been told, first hand, that this deal is done and will be a long term project including the local community, council and local sports organisations.

If I want to get excited it's no one's business but mine.

It'll be spread across the infrastructure, the community and the club.

Hold this word in your mind .... 'Sheepfolds'
sheepfolds was always in the plans when quinny was chairman, i remember the 'sports village' blueprint scheme going down to the riverside, the final hurdle then was the purchase of the paintbrush factory iirc, but it was definitely part of the grand scheme.

If they improve the surrounding area as well as the football club, the council will be ower the moon.

Makes the city look nicer, cos they can't do it

And don't forget the mags taking the piss
We did it to them after they started eyeing up Neymar and moriniho in the summer. That’s still funny as fuck like
Surely that's their business, not yours or his.

Or yours. So you should probably shut up stating it’s a done deal. Best lock this thread as it’s none of our business.

Regardless of potential new investors you have to praise the current owners, our league status is not as high as it was but Sunderland AFC feels a lot more like Sunderland AFC should do since they arrived.

The lack of snide mercenary players has helped no end, but there is a general feeling that has long since been missing, well done Stewart et al.

They have put a huge shift in in a short time.
