Takeover Rumours

We don’t know for certain, but I’d say multi billionaire Americans aren’t popping to the Costa del Seaburn, and watching games at the SOL, if it wasn’t quite progressed

As soon as ALS and, especially, Roker Report put out articles about it I thought there was a very good chance it would be completed. RR especially would be unlikely to run anything like that without checking with the owners, and the owners would be very unlikely to give the go ahead if there was a decent chance of it collapsing; they will know how much damage it could do to morale of the fan base if their hopes are raised then dashed. Them turning up to the game again suggests it's close. My wholly uneducated opinion would be that it's at the dotting the i's and crossing the t's stage, and the fit and proper persons test isn't likely to be a challenge for them either. I won't get too excited until it happens and we see their plans, but it looks very good, and very likely at this stage

This isn't a dig at Donald in anyway.

Just thinking and remembered all the stuff about them using the parachute payments to buy the club, and he said that the company set up to buy the club (him and Charlie) will pay that back into the club. So if the 40m investment reported if Charlie and Donald put that money back now then does that put some of the ffp and efl salary stuff to bed? Or did I dream all of this.

Please don't take this the wrong way but it's none of his business ...

... who is he to tell other people what to do?

I've been told, first hand, that this deal is done and will be a long term project including the local community, council and local sports organisations.

If I want to get excited it's no one's business but mine.

I hope you are right Reiver as that sounds a cracking plan

can you peel any layers off of the term “first hand” without revealing your sources there mate?

The person who told me is a friend who's currently in the States negotiating the sale of a huge pharmaceutical research company.

He's using a group of solicitors involved with huge American companies.

He has an agency which tracks any internet searches on either him or his company so I daren't post them on here ... I have pm'd people I trust.

If I post that info, on here, the mass of searches would blow my cover as he knows I'm a Sunderland supporter and has helped with tickets.

One of his best mates is Putin so you'll appreciate my reluctance to repeat info given in confidence.

If I posted what I know I'd be a hero on here but compromise my future employment which would piss our lass off.

I'm more scared of her than Putin

This, I thnk is what Ellis either didn't get or couldn't accomplish. The club and cities futures are linked. Their success is interllinked. If one does well so the other will. Developing stadium park is a no brainer to anyone with the cash or connections to make it happen. Making the SOL a destination and part of a larger complex which attracts consumers would mean its used for more events etc. The club could benifit from this extra revenue along with anything built at sheepfolds directly but also by fans getting jobs in bars/sporting facilities and spending more at the club. The area becomes more attractive and it snowballs around the city. Its then a more attractive place for potential new signings etc. What City have done around their ground is fantastic, fingers crossed we can do something similar even if its on a smaller scale.

Thanks and fair play to you. I hope it all goes off without a hitch.

Good post mate and it's exactly that kind of outlook that's needed.

Sunderland has a coastline, big river, wonderful countryside a coté, available developmental land around the ground and a council that would love to make itself look pro-active.

If everyone pulls together this can be a massive boost to a town that's been left behind for no good reason.

Very true. With any luck we'll start dragging people into our city on the metro and from Co Durham rather than the other way around. Was out the other week and a youngan was banging on about going off to Newcastle as wasn't having a good time. If we can get this lost generation to stay in the city and spend money it benifits everyone.
