Takeover Rumours

yup, i imagine city fans never in their wildest dreams thought theyd become more successful than united (in current terms)
They had it much worse than us, imagine if the mags were winning the league every year, fa cups and European cup like Man U were under Fergie. It would have been unbearable. They deserve it really, although I think now they are taking it for granted. To get to the top you still have to get past them, Man U and Liverpool. Chelsea are on the wane, one less I guess and Spurs have only won the league twice ever. No matter how much money, I don’t expect us to be challenging for the league title. Saying all this I just want an fa cup before I die, that’s me happy.

I'm not sure that's quite it.

When you literally have endless access to money then you SHOULD win everything at some point. The nature of the club completely changed overnight and while I'm sure they enjoyed the first league win immensely there's a bit of a shadow cast over it because they "bought" it while Man United "built" it (they also spent a f***ing fortune relatively).

We need to be careful in that sense. In a weird way I'd prefer we had a handful of people with a few billion who can propel us to success based on good management from the top down as opposed to several billion being cash in the back pocket and feeling like we just outspent everyone else.

Leadbitter lifts league 1 and checkatrade trophy this season after beating Portsmouth 5-0 at Wembley. Championship winners next season, beating the mags twice and while sorting out the Academy and all the other background stuff and then Jordan Henderson lifts the F.A.Cup in 2022 for us... we'll just see how it goes from there, eh?

might not be the popular opinion on here but i'm not sure i'd like my club to be some rich man's plaything. i'd hate us to become the likes of man city or chelsea who sold their soul.
i'd sooner see the likes of maguire, o nien and wyke busting a gut for us than any millionaire footballer that can't be arsed.
just my thoughts, i'm not into wind ups or owt like that.

Agree with what you say,but I don't think Man C have sold their soul. Their players seem to have a work ethic and a professionalism about them whenever I've watched them play. It's all about recruitment......yes,they'll pay top money, but it has to be for the right player, and there's no reason why we can't be like that if all this comes off.It isn't just about signing a team of highly paid star players. I know someone who knows someone in the know at Man City and they spend as much of their time on scouting and recruitment as anything else......Guardiola insists on it.They focus on character, attitude and lifestyle as much as skill. They can afford anybody, but there are lots of players currently in the EPL who they've looked at and wouldn't touch.
I hope our new management will continue with an ethos of hard work, character, good attitude that permeates its' way throughout the club, from top to bottom, that any players coming in will subscribe to from day 1.

We’re very different.

They haven’t sold their soul though.

I'd deliberately bypassed this post originally but I can see this theme recurring so I'll give my opinion.

You could say easily say that the club is already a 'rich man's plaything' and has been for years .... Donald, Short, the Irish, etc,

None of those people had any real connection with Sunderland and that's true of the owners of most clubs including Bury, Bolton and Darlington.

Modern football is all about money ... there's no going back on that and, on balance, I'd rather we had some.

It's up to the owners to run the club properly, maintain the infrastructure and aim for success ... the supporters are the soul of the club.

I watched the Spurs game, on Sunday, and when the cameras went onto the crowd it's truly incredible how many obvious tourists, swathed in brand new merchandise, there are.

Go to Chelsea and almost all the stewards, programme sellers, catering staff, etc are immigrant workers.

That won't happen here, no matter what happens we won't be having coachloads of Japanese 'football tourists' coming here and the majority of staff will be locals.

Whether success is 'bought' quickly or slowly it's impossible to get anywhere without money ...

... whether we regard the club as a plaything or not is our choice, jealous people will but **** them.

if we sign any decent footballer from China or India, our crowds would definitely go up as there's thousands of them living in Sunderland already but I agree 100% with you marra

Tremendous post agree 100 per cent, getting the right players sounds simple but as we know isnt.We have had to take risks on players through lack of funds ,now hopefully a thing of the past.We must focus on those same traits we dont want rif raff at the club end of

Do you think Dell is going to be involved ?

I agree and count them as locals just as much as the son of a sand dancing mariner from the Middle East.

We also need to maximise the potential support from students across the NE, get some of them on the Metro from Newcastle etc

If we play exciting, attacking, winning football, together with an excellent matchday experience, they'll come.
