Takeover Rumours

He’s never been particularly good as anything but the underdog. He’s not good when he has expectation to dominate. Not sure how well he’d do building at the biggest and best resources club in league one. It’s certainly not a sure thing for me.

There’s a bring rewriting history in that post too, mind. He got his two main targets. He chased fletcher like a dog all summer. The fact that he didn’t fit with what we needed (and his team building failed) was down to him.
We played some great stuff under oneil and some of the worst ive ever seen all in the space of a year ,you say he got his targets i disagree and in the end nobody knows for certain but i think oneil hoyed the toys out of the pram when short refused to fund his plan for that season.

Had a few of those. Mensah in particular stands out in memory.
Ah yes, good old Nik-Nak legs.
I see the board is doing upgrades today . What happens if something happens in the meantime ? How will we cope when the board is down for 20 minutes at a time ?
Or what if it's all part of a master plan? Announce while the boards are down to prevent global internet meltdown.

I should clarify what I'm saying here as well as I'm able.

I was never talking about a long term adviser to guide the direction of the club.

This was like getting a bloke, who's a well known dirty fingered mechanic, to check out a car you've been offered and give a blunt opinion ...
... but unofficially and on the quiet, not through the RAC.

I can think of few people better placed than Allardyce for that job.

The people you've mentioned don't know the club well enough.

Quinn is too rose tinted and 'politically' biased.

Short never really understood the mechanics of the club.

Donald & Methven obviously have vested interests and the new lads wouldn't learn much except the bare facts and figures.

Really, I'm struggling to think of anyone better than Allardyce for that specific job.

Not that I'm saying he was that person ;)

Don’t really care about people who know the club...I want advice from successful people and their contacts, I want a broad scan of what it takes and how to build success...I wouldn’t limit myself.

I'm glad I saw the message about the upgrades like, loads will log on, not be able to get the site to load, and will think something has happened! Threads proper dying now mind, logged on having been away for an hour and only one extra page! Oh well, off I go for another hour or so, hopefully some random update comes along soon!

I tend to agree. Experience at our club probably tarnishes people. Experience of running a football club / business well/ properly is more important. Obviously I have affection for former players but I think for example Keane’s standards and expectations from his years at the top asked questions of us as a club. I’m not saying Keane cos he’s a loon but we need that mindset in the new era.

You're missing the point mate, I'm talking about pre-purchase not post-purchase.

This is more to do with the new lads asking for the pure dope on the club, not the few scraps Mourinho or Wenger would know.

Hows he done at rangers? @Doberman

well I thought he'd done an excellent job until he left and a fair few very well connected people alluded to something sinister. Not sure what but these connected people absolutely destroyed him on social media. They claimed Gerrard will be thrilled to see him go and it was always going to come to a head eventually.

You can accept poor play when you get a 2-2 draw at Anfield man.

These days your clapping like fuck when we draw at home to oxford and lose 3-0 to peterborough because 'look what we were like 14 months ago'.

Embarrassing beyond belief.

you know what is "embarrassing beyond belief"? Allardyce practically begging for a job in the Sun.

We've still got a manager and regardless of your personal thoughts on him Allardyce shouldn't be whoring himself out to us.

There's no doubting that Allardyce got some good results towards the end of the season but we've had plenty of managers that have found form at the end of the season.

You’re the embarrassing one, just making up shit because you haven’t got the ability to have a decent argument!! Never clapped at all against Peterborough as we were poor in that game. As for the Oxford game no I didnt go into a meltdown because we drew our first game
Was that when half the scousers walked out on 70 min or so and Liverpool went from world beaters to shit?
A lot walked out when we equalised it was like a mass exodus

Think Kone got the hump because Sam had promised him a new contract and it then got vetoed when Moyes came in and Moyes largely treated Khazri like total shit, although I agree they should have handled it themselves better. Both having a dodgy agent no doubt being involved (particularly in Kone's case) esculating matters as their 'mate' wasn't in charge anymore.

In the cases of Kone and Khazri I think their careers could have been different here had Sam stayed but I think he would have left in the summer irrespective of thr England job as well as it was pretty much when Short pulled the plug.

Kirchoff was never going to be one to last forever but Sam's a good record for the fitness side of the game and got everything he wanted out of him while he was here.
Now married to a lass from the NE.

Like watching Barcelona compared to now.
It wasn’t like, not sure what people just got carried away because he kept us up, but he had a nearly a full season there and it still took him till the last few games to get us safe. Not saying he was poor but if we did change manager he’s not what we need to build for the future
I wouldnt worry yourself ,no chance of winning the league with this personality vaccum ,80 odd games .No style, organisation,or even semblance of a team, just a couple of players pulling us through games.Make no mistake peterboro wont be a one off .
Yeah because we are so far away from the top, 2 pts with a game in hand!!

To be fair to him for some of his time at Bolton the football was good eg the Okocha and Djorkaeff era and there were about 5 games where we played good football but after then most of his jobs have been scrapping for survival and it’s just been dull and functional.
Not saying he’s a bad manager he’s good at what he does, but if they decide to change manager he’s not what we need, he would just be here for 1 last pay day.
