Merge ticket office into club shop and turn black cats house into a massive three storey sports bar/pub with food and regular events, it will be rammed on match days and then also serve the sheepfold housing once it’s built

was gonna say about black cat house. since our ticket office is non f***ing existant anyway what are we losing?

Not a bother. Though their own finance would show a level of commitment that I have yet to be convinced of. Be a real statement of long term intent if they unveiled modernisation and redevelopment plans. If we don’t move forward off the park we’ll not be restricted on the park as well

It would be a commercial load for infrastructure improvements, NOT for buying players or paying bills. Big difference

I agree but I just don’t think there’s appetite at the club to do it.

I might be totally wrong on this, but given the sustainability push, any potential investment in infrastructure will ultimately be judged on when the club see a return.

For example, let’s say it will cost £10m to totally revamp the SOL. If the club think it will only take 2-3 years to get that money back, they probably would consider it a risk worth taking. If, however, it’s going to take 10 years, then they will probably reject it.

For the record , I’ve said for years they need to revamp the SOL. It should be a priority (after the playing side of course)

Aye but infrastructure debt over the long term with guarantees of returns is very different to putting a footballer on a 60k a week five year deal having already spent £10m to recruit. There’s good debt and bad debt.

Jesus, I dont know if the cost of doing it would give the returns required, but if looked at properly it could provide much needed funds

Someone mentioned earlier with the Riverside development and sheepfolds happening the footfall would increase so a decent venue would generate funds even when a game isn't on. Something like a sports bar maybe?

With the stables opening this year they may have missed the boat but I always thought the scrap yard could have been converted to a bar, again too late on that and the old dealership but there's space next to the it which you could knock up a barn type structure (think soccerarena in durham but filled with tables like a german beerhall) add a few heaters and you've potential for big moneymaking on a match day. Would use it for other events during the rest of the week.

This would of course require foresight and investment something I've not seen on the commercial side just yet.

There isn't many things that could be done that would give such quick returns imo

We’ve two board members who apparently have £5b between them. Another board member with a net worth in the hundreds of millions. A bit of capital investment wouldn’t gan a miss. If not, I’m fairly sure long term loans are achievable. That doesn’t count towards FFP and any increased income generated from matchday revenues helps us with sustainability.

It’s got to stack up financially tho, if they don’t see it being possible to get a return on investment then they won’t do it. I’d have thought the amount it’s cost would take decades to recoup given how little additional revenue it’s likely to generate.
