*~*~* Sunderland v Plymouth match thread *~*~*

Well if we had more points then a Burnley win wouldn’t have been bad either, but that would be bad now, so yes, a bit different there George
Disagree marra. A Leeds win or a draw was always going to be the best result, regardless of what we did today imo.

There was although it was short

I suspect it was more out of frustration at throwing away another 2 points

I don’t think it’s justified but you can see why people are frustrated. It’s become a habit now of conceding late goals and we’re quite literally throwing automatic promotion away by not being able to see a game out.

People look at the table and the points totals. Fair enough. I look at the performances on the pitch.

4 teams are in this but one is way stronger than us, Sheffield are above us even with a points deduction, Burnley, who never concede just smashed bottom of the table 5-0 meanwhile we haven’t put a team to the sword since Wednesday and just let Plymouth get a comfortable draw against us at home cos we were shit scared of them.

We are the most likely team to finish 4th out the 4 teams fighting for autos imo.

Still an incredible achievement but compared to the start of the season, missing out on promotion would be incredibly disappointing.
Agree with that; based on performances to date, I don't think we we finish in top 2. Sheffield are throwing money around, that might bite them. That said, we need to spend some sharpish, or, hope returning players will help.

Tbh i think Samed was ok , apart from if he did get a shout when he turned into trouble. Not very inventive, but he is probs just concentrating on not making mistakes atm.
The problems were not playing Mayenda thru the middle from the start, to share the load with Wilson and give him more space. Neil and jobe not seeming to quite know what their roles were. The biggest problem being RLB not being able to change things from 25 mins when it was obvious that things weren't going right. Plus going all defensive when 2 -1 up.
Not helped by mr dependable Mepham having a bad day at the office.
Aye, the whole piece was poor ... it can't be hard to work out their tactics of sit back with a massed defence and pump it long. Not necessarily easy to get through, but we need to do more because it's become a thing, along with the falling back to our own goal line and not being able to get out. Tactically and mentally lacking unfortunately. I'm assuming that Samed was in to allow the more creative players the freedom to get forward and play, they didn't really do it.

Other than losing the ball leading to their goal. Twice he’s cost us a goal in 100 minutes of play. He’s shite

Which is exactly what i said and your selective quotes misses out. But if you want to blame someone for the first goal have a look at how Mepham tried to deal with the ball and then stood like a rabbit in the headlights while O'Nien tried to clear it off the line.

When Neil plays in the holding role he causes problems by bursting forward. The twice I have seen Samid he just sits in and plays simple sideways passes. We need more than that when we challenging for promotion and especially against the bottom team. And I haven't even mentioned his mistakes

When you’re a holding midfielder player and you lose the ball leading to a goal, your performance can’t be ok.

Maybe if we didn't start and end the game defensively against a side pumped 5-0 by a riva last time outl, not won in about 14 games, and bottom of the table, then folk might not be so disappointed at the final whistle.

Reggie just has to say he got it wrong today. It shouldn’t define the season, but nor should it be repeated
We played shite.

We didn't lose.

Move on.

Only way you can look at it as a fan at the end of the day, however frustrating it was

As predictable as the day is long.

Me father told me last Tuesday we wouldn't be winning as all of the danger signs were there.

We were never going to put 6 past them and we did well to get a point.

Mind the team selection was barmy right from the off and we didn't help ourselves.
