Unfortunately there's only shite fast food places that will have the resources to take a punt without much risk.
Would you plough your savings into a unit in the station? Because it seems apparent its not an attractive option for anyone atm
Agree. Would be better used as a marketplace with stalls, that happened to have a station attached. As you say, most travellers just quickly pass through.Personally disagree mind, the design is 100% what's wrong with the station. It's just far too big for what it is, and it's just not needed. The old station was ugly, but the layout was 100% better.
There's no need for a huge concourse as the vast majority of people use the Metro which is every 12 minutes. Outside of that there's a local 2 car train once or twice an hour and those people will be also heading straight down to the platform as most will be local and the 6 Grand Central trains a day.
imo they need to just get rid of the space and stick a large unit in it's place instead like it used to be overlooking Market Square.
The north entrance will be fully on the council , and the council will want it to fit in with the plans for high street westAgree. Would be better used as a marketplace with stalls, that happened to have a station attached. As you say, most travellers just quickly pass through.
The design for the north entrance looks better. A proper match up of form and function.
Put small police station with the station, staffed 24/7. Northumbria Police could co share it with the Railway Police?Sunderland City Centre, needs a Police Station/ office, this would be ideal.
Sort out the scratters who frequent the station

Those offices are whatever they are, totally ruin the station at platform level. Passengers pushed onto the edges of the platform and make everything feel totally confined. The offices should be at ground level and platforms opened up.Keep seeing this and personally I don't get an obsession with a police station in the centre, it's just a chore to get anywhere and heading East is the sea.
South Sunderland is where a police station is needed imo, basically a replacement for Farringdon which was never replaced.
Also sure the transport police have the room downstairs on the platform don't they?

That's the station we should have now. Imagine that but with a 2025 take, escalators, coloured glass roof, hi def displays, could be amazing. You must be logged on to see external links
100% , they have done it by half and when it’s the gateway to the city they should go all out to make it impressive as possibleThat's the station we should have now. Imagine that but with a 2025 take, escalators, coloured glass roof, hi def displays, could be amazing.
I always see police in town through the day , no idea in the evening but always a few on bikes
10 hoursOnly Sunderland City Council could build a brand new car park, call it “station car park” and put a f***ing 10 hour parking restriction on it.
Off to London for the week for work, usually go LNER - thought I’d go from Sunderland, never again.
Met my daughter here off the metro late last night, 2 case's - lift broke (out of order) - escalator broke (out of order) how much did it cost to be the same as before the refurbishment?
The lift and escalator situation is absolutely embarrassing. It's indicative of how we are as a nation today, nothing but ineptitude and endless excuses everywhere.
the escalator has been barriered off for monthsAFAIK they have been out of order for quite a while, more than likely network Rail, how does no one repair them within a few days, no information saying anything about it or even apologising, as you say ineptitude and zero accountability.
