Although equal speculation is "Squat", ............... there was not a lot of water beneath her, pushing 10 knots and running with the convoy, slight over corrective action from the helm, followed up by "interaction" from the steep banks, and again, a harsh steering correction, and then voila.
but as you say perhaps, steering or ME failure.

Very likely port dues are in that number which would include, pilot launch running costs, launch crews salaries, admin ...... there is no end of stuff that could be in that figure.
What Canadian port was it out of curiosity? East or West coast as in the Lawrence river or the Vancouver area

No port fees included as it was a private dock, cheeky bastards wanted 2 pilots for the captain's first 3 visits as well. The lads at the dock said the ship could dock itself there but everything is heavily unionised and protected.
