Striker situation

Since speakman came in how many strikers has be signed on a permanent basis. I've gone on record many times to praise the clubs transfer policy in many area's but the centre forward position is just baffling, and everyone, whether they admit it or now knows it.

I'm certain that given the amount of recruitment in al most all other areas of the field that we'd have identified multiple options to sign up from (if not what are we paying the recruitment team for?)
I find it staggering that you believe we just didn’t bother or rejected multiple good fits. Each to their own, I guess. We’ve signed one, in League One, and he’s the best in the Championship

We missed a trick not getting archer in
He didn’t score till his 5th appearance. Given Gelhardt has already been written off on here after 4 he’d have had no chance.
And as I said later in the thread and again this morning, it is impossible to discuss anything to do with the forward line up, change of formation, how we can change things because posts like yours is all that is ever said in response
Discuss it all you want. It’s just pointless mentioning players we didn’t sign or Stewart.

We've done nothing since is my point. We've done so much in midfield and defence. Must be a reason for it.

And again for the deaf and hard of hearing, I have not mentioned one player we don't have.

I mentioned different formations and that Gelhardt could do with someone alongside him ffs

The thing is, over 2 years, they've brought in talented young wingers, talented young defenders, talented young midfielders... the database and stats found all those. I just would have hoped it could also have found enough strikers. It hasn't. It's not about what happened on deadline day.

He'll probably get better, if he was only this good we wouldn't have signed him. We can't wait forever though, there'll come a point where he'll need dropped if we can't find a way to make him effective.

We have identified strikers Simms, Nemeth, Geldhart, Archer etc that we know of. I won’t however judge Speakman on how many strikers he signs. I’m only interested in Speakman delivering improvement year on year. We have made phenomenal progress this year and its up him to do the same next year. We will definitely need to sign strikers in the summer for another season of progression and if we don’t and the club regresses because if it then he deserves criticism.

Going to end up costing us the playoffs like.

Amad is well and truly off the pace atm and Gelhardt can't hold it up. The ball keeps coming back and back because we can't get out.

Gutting
I think the key to getting the best out of Gelhardt is to drop Diallo & play Pritchard in the 10. Stewart & to a lesser extent Simms could do it on their own but Joffy needs some help & I truly believe that Pritchard could be the man to give it, his pressing from the front & intelligent through balls could unlock the kids potential. It's criminal that we didn't bring anyone else in but it is what it is, we can disect it in the summer for now though we need to be patient with him as he's all we've got.
Gelhardts f***ing crap,
He's not though is he, he's just not what we needed. He's a talented lad but he's not a No.9 & could have probably done with a league one loan before now, you can see his talent but he's still miles off being up to speed with the mans game, spent way too much time in Leeds u21's. Neither Clarke nor Roberts hit the ground running last season & both were similarly frustrating but were fantastic in the playoffs we just have to hope we get the same from Joffy.

It is a massive failing on the clubs part, no doubt about it. I just think after what happened 1st half of the season with the injuries to Stewart & Simms we might have learnt from that & budged slightly on the ethos just to bring a bit over cover there until the end of the season. We have so much talent surrounding the cf that I think short term we could have got away with an old fashioned shit house No.9 upfront, doing the hold up play, defending set pieces, that sort of thing. We brought in Stern John under Keane & Brian Deane under Mccarthy. The mags brought in Daryl Murphy. The experience of those players was instrumental in promotions even if it was just to see out a game for the last 20 minutes. That sort of player could have got us 3 points yesterday just by keeping the ball up the opposite end of the pitch

The problem is we don’t sign strikers though one permanent in the last 4 windows. It’s a glaring omission and just because we have gotten in correct in our areas does not get away from the fact we are short upfront and everyone can see it.

You can see the difference Archers pace has made for Boro. I have seen a fair amount of Gelhardt and no Leeds fan I know thinks he’s an out and out striker. The lad is short of match fitness struggles to hold the ball up is not lightening quick has a decent touch but jury is out on how good a player the lad will turn out to be.

Same with Archer. It took him 5 games to score and he’s playing alongside someone who scores every week in a team that’s flying. Gelhardt has hit the bar and come close. Give him a chance. The way people go on we must never have lost ever when Stewart and Simms played.

His contribution to the goal yesterday was ridiculously good as well. Controlled the ball instantly when the ball was pinged into him, layed it off, got the return and played a beautifully weighted pass to Clarke.

Spot on mate, every available penny has to be spent up front or he will get stick, pleased with most of signings though

Ah but he didn’t score it himself. Aka rubbish! Can’t wait till he scores two on Tuesday.

Canny how the threads have slowly gone from:
"We don't have a striker so we'll struggle this season"
"We don't have a striker so we won't even finish midtable"
"We don't have a striker so we won't reach the playoffs"

to the OP's current one of "We don't have a striker so we'll struggle in the playoffs"

It's almost as if we can play without a striker.
