Striker situation

I'm as disappointed an anyone regarding the striker situation, they should have been prioritising back up to Stewart the moment Simms left.
But do agree there is no point bringing a body in regardless, we've been stung that way many times haven't we?
I do wonder if Ekwah could do a job there as well as a Danny Graham type signing could have!
He scored regularly from midfield at youth level so can hit the target, plus his size and strength could hopefully mean decent hold up play when we are under the cosh.

And so are you and others on this thread yet people keep going "If only...." It's pointless.

For me Pritch is more aware where the goal is. Therefore a better player up front than Michut. I don't envy TM as it's not easy.

Happy to talk about the realities of the situation rather than pretending we can magic up a striker out of thin air. That's the point.
Gelhardt will come good.

Never mind Deadline Day - this has been an issue for 2 years now.

I think one of the problems is that good forwards cost good money. We have had the best striker in the 3rd tier and now the best in the 2nd tier taking the place in our team as the one centre forward that we often play. Last season we had Stewart, a poor signing on good money in O'Brien and a forward loan in Broadhead. Could a third tier side expect to by a 4th striker and if so would one good enough come knowing they wouldnt get game time?
It was enough in terms of bodies as our team suits one forward if we want to get the likes of Diallo, Roberts, Clarke, Pritchard in the team. This season we have had Stewart and Simms and were expected to have Stewart and Geldhart while also having wide forward options that can play up front if needed. How many quality centre forwards can a team like us buy and importantly how many qualiity centre forwards would sign if they aren't going to get starts in a team that plays 1 up front a lot of the time. We could have got 'a body' in if you take the view that any centre forward is better than no centre forward but I think 2 days before the window we had as good as you could realistically expect.

No you haven’t. Mr Outraged from Pennywell then nowhere to be seen when we are smashing QPR and suddenly you were back again.
I was on the match thread so you can't be stalking me that well now can you. The issues aren't going away, much as you'd like them too and sadly it seems the only striker they did sign isn't what we need. We're yet to play the more difficult sides, watch our position drop and it'll be more 1 yesr ago threads to try to cover up huge mistakes in the squad building.
Gelhardt will come good.
Possibly, but doesn't look likely this season. Which is why we brought him in.
This is a genuine question.

Has speakman come out with what happened deadline day ?

First of all if we get a single point from the games against Norwich and Sheffield United it will be one point more than we got against them we we had both Stewart and Simms up front. You might want to remember that when when you combust with excitement and rush on here if we don't win either of those games. Burnley beat everyone all the time however many forwards you have. They are the best team in this league by a distance.
I'm delighted with the progress we have made under Speakman - no club is going to get things perfectly right but in the last 12 months you will struggle to find many clubs that have improved to the level we have.

I and many others are anything but excited when we don't win. We can see why and who's responsible so won't say. Bad luck or look where we were last year. We'll call it as it is. Its over 2 years not 12 months we've needed permanent strikers. I'm nit holding my breath for them in the summer either judging by previous club comments.

You;ll of course remember that when we were playing 2 up front I stated we needed more depth for the bench even then. Instead of bringing those in we depleted our options and will pay the price for this during the coming months.,

spot on and Broadhead went to Wigan on loan rather than come back here because he didn’t think he would get game time

Neither did LND when he first arrived
Injured and didn't play much until he scored against Plymouth, then did the same in the 2nd leg of the playoffs. I don't think comparing this lad to Stewart does him any favours. Its also unfair on him too. He looks to me more a sheringham or litmanen type of withdrawn striker. This isn't what we needed and he'll either sink of swim. I wonder if TM has voiced his opinion to the hierarchy
People moan about not signing a striker saying any striker is better than no striker but then whinge incessantly about Simms and Gelhardt.
No body said sign anyone iirc.

Calling it as it is is stating that the recruitment policy of Speakman has seen us develop from a team that lost 6-0 at Bolton, 2-1 at Cheltenham and 2-1 to Doncaster in a week to challenging in the upper echelons of the championship playing some fabulous football. That's fact, that's calling it as it is.

Many did. “Lack of striker” has been said a million times, aka “a striker” The issue isn’t “a striker” it’s none of them are Ross Stewart.
Many of us we're attacked for wanting strikers (plural) in. However none of us said sign anyone. We wanted quality as we have managed in other area's. We were told any player coming in before deadline day qwould be of Danny Graham quality at one point and that we don't panic buy. We;; we don;t buy when it comes to strikers. Its a novel strategy to avoid failure in buying strikers, just don't do it.
