Strauss and his stupid ideas....

I wonder what sort of bribes some of the counties will be offered to give up 1st class cricket
Well Dobell was saying that the annual payment to Counties from the ECB deal had expired. All the ECB need to do is to indulge in a little blackmail.

It's worthwhile looking at the makeup of the ECB board and wondering how much influence the Counties actually have?

If ever there was a time for the Counties to do a Premier League of Cricket then this is it. Take control and then tell the ECB what's what and not the other way around. Trouble is the only competition worthwhile is International Tests and that fully in the control of the people putting money ahead on cricket. Counties need to wrest back control somehow otherwisde they are dead.

I thought that the ECB gave the counties a hand out every year.

I can't recall what Dobell said. Maybe he was referring to a cut of The Hundred cash or perhaps not.

Anyone know? Still I'd say they have plenty scope for withholding from arkward counties if they want.

According to the ECB website 44% of their income goes into various places including to 1st class counties. £109m per annum.

It doesn't give the breakdown as far as I can see. No doubt someone who got a membership at Durham will know

Up to the members now to make their voices heard at their club. Given how poor communication is at Durham, it will be interesting to see if the club decide to liaise with members over this. I'd expect some sort of statement quite soon if they seriously want to take our views into consideration.
Bear in mind that Durham is one of the three counties which is not “owned “ by its members. That do mean that they don’t have a moral duty to consult at the very least.

Fully aware of that. As I've said many times, the communication at the club is very poor so I don't expect much from them. I think given North & Franklin are part of The Hundred, it's fair to say where their priorities lie. See what happens I guess but all members need to stick together

Times today
"All counties have committed to consulting their members about Strauss’s proposals and members’ forums will be taking place over the coming weeks".

Be interesting to see what DCCCs version of consulting is.

Much has been made about Durham being different from the majority of other counties as it's not owned by it's members. But members ,when approving converting to a Plc ,were assured that they'd still retain a golden share ,that share counts as at least 51% of the shares on any voting issue. In effect then,on voting issues, members still effectively own the club.

Welcome DFM.

Bostock also appears to be the favourite for the ECB CEO role vacated by Harrison.

Looks like this idea is on hold anyway...for the time being
the same Bostock, of course, who didn't think Durham should 'reopen old wounds' over the disparity in punishments meted out by the ECB to Durham and Yorks, who said at the time that the ECB were being really 'supportive' of Durham and that he prefered 'quiet diplomacy'. Of course, he also failed to mention that he fancied the job of CEO at the ECB and was a really strong candidate for the job, so I can understand why he wouldn't want to reopen anything that might jeopardise his preferment. Quiet diplomacy? Well.... he certainly kept that pretty quiet at the time

Would like that post again if I could, the counties need to wise up and wise up now.

The counties hold the power, they own the grounds where England play and they develop the players who make up the team.

Shocking, but not at all surprising.

If this is to be an even handed review why aren't they looking at the impact of The Hundred on the rest of cricket. The answer is for no good reason. It's a crying shame that the Hundred is sacrosanct, while County Cricket is the first dish on the menu to be carved up.
