It's very unique in that Bruce is a long way from being our worst manager yet got more stick than any boss I can remember and we've had some terrible ones!
Don't dispute he got sacked because of results and contrary to popular myth on here Bruce never once said he got the boot for being a Geordie either.
What killed him were the Derby results, the lopsided results in his 2 full seasons and the final nail was that the mags were unexpectedly flying in his last season whilst we were struggling. This all lead to the unsavoury chants and ultimate dislike.
you mean one chant at the end of the game?

perhaps you'd be happier walking out on 73 minutes because we're in the top ten.

or booing the manager after a victory because he doesn't play the Sunderland way.

Largely agree with what you say there, though you must admit Pardew has faced worse for losing derbies than Bruce did. I think what really did for him was losing/selling good players and failing to replace them. The fact that he did well bought him patience throughout the first winless runs. That probably irks me more: we are now branded as unduly expectant in the media, which really isnt the case.

Well firstly he done a cracking job there so why would he? Secondly my mate a Brighton fan who tells me how revered he was so that answers that.
He allegedly shit on the palace dressing room floor which lead to his untimely demise. Not exactly one you'd choose to bring up is it?
You did though, despite it being alleged gossip. Just like Bruce and the knife throwing.

Some strange Sunderland fans rewriting history on this thread.

Bruce received excellent backing from the fans. It turned sour against Wigan, but the patience and support during some terrible runs & poor form was superb. He wouldn't have received that at the majority of prem teams.

The man has no class

Only times I can remember things turning towards sour towards Bruce inside the Stadium of Light were after we went 2-0 down after 5 minutes against West Brom, last 10 minutes or so against Fulham and the last 20 minutes against Wigan.

On the whole, the patience we showed given our form once we sold Bent was remarkable and as you say, he wouldn't have got that amount of leeway from most sets of fans.

Never heard of the knife throwing but I think their is some substance in the whole shitting on floor thing mind.May not have been him and one of his staff but it seems to be common knowledge that summit happened.
Perry groves often mentions it on talk sport .

The chants were just starting to bubble before that game mind.
Why you comparing us to the mags? I don't give a fuck about them.If they want to embarrass themselves crack on. I'd just like us to show a little more humility that's all.

You really have fallen for his "nice bloke" act haven't you?
Like everybody else on here I don't know him personally but he comes across as a decent bloke and that only basis I can judge him on.

we did, that's the point.

Why does anyone care about him? We got rid of him, people are acting like he walked from us

probably because we got rid and he went on to get a worse squad to finish higher than us and got them to the more glamourous cup final and european football next year

We were being branded unrealistic during reids time as well mind.Ive heard Peter Reid himself say that you can't really do much more than 7th with sunderland. He got a lot of grief as well to be fair although not quite in the Bruce envelope and the media would often ask what our expectation s were so this isn't something to just lay at that poor fat buggers doorstep!

we did, that's the point.
What by chanting you fat Geordie bastard at him? Come on man that's out of order and you know it.

Northern team from an economically struggling area, with two ex SAFC players who were good lads and good servants of the club are beating a southern team with some of the best and highest players in the world, and yet some Sunderland fans wish they wernt because of a few sideways comments made by someone who managed us three years ago.

Bruce is obviously the bitter one.
obviously you Missed Elmohammady acting the cu.nt to our fans earlier this season, the boys an absolute f***ing arsehole, dont mind Bruce but i wish to god he would stop bringing us up, he sounds like the bride dumped on honeymoon who puts up facebook statuses about her ex husband.

i don't agree with booing full stop, what we chanted wouldn't even make a top ten offensive chants of the season list.

You cant excuse Bruce then slate the fans.....he was sacked solely on his results, even you agreed he was! Has he ever admitted that?

Don't think it was particularly tasteful though.Im pretty sure if you were in the dugout doing ya best and having thousands of fans howling at ya you'd be pretty narked as well.
