To be fair you put across a decent argument however I totally disagree with Reid copping more flak than Bruce and certainly not personal abuse either.

Nonsense.

“I got a glass of beer over my face onepre-season. That is just abuse. And if you react, you’re the one who is out of order. The only way to get over it is to take comfort from the fact that you are bigger than the person who has done it."

Didn't it get to the point where Reid couldn't come out of the dugout at the Stadium of Light without being met with abuse? The stick he got was far worse than anything Bruce received, difference is Reid accepted that it came with the territory if you weren't producing the results whereas Bruce's ego wouldn't allow him to admit or acknowledge any responsibility for his numerous mistakes.

It was far nastier IMHO and he took it on the chin like a man. His stubbornness was frustrating mind.

You keep saying you're here to debate but it's pretty pointless as you seem completely unwilling. People are making well reasoned points but you come back with your stock rhetoric every time.

You are right, Bruce has never uttered the words "Ellis Short sacked me purely because I'm a Geordie," although I'm not sure anyone has claimed otherwise? To date though it is the ONLY reason he has given - that the crowd turned on him because of his roots and Short sacked him because of that. You say he hasn't claimed it to be the main reason but he hasn't given any other reasons, so surely when he says "Make no mistake, the Geordie thing came into play" when talking about the reason for his sacking you can understand why it would be interpreted in that way?

To say he has only ever known "sweetness and light" in his career is hilariously sycophantic, but more so laughable when a) he is disliked by every set of clubs he's managed bar Hull, and b) he rattled off a list of clubs he's been abused at less than a month ago. The list was us, West Brom, Liverpool and Birmingham iirc. Man City and Wigan fans chanted abusive songs at him at the SOL, he told a story about being abused by Mags in the street and the pub when he manager here and was abused when Birmingham, Wigan and Hull played at SJP.

You say he was hounded for months - my recollection is that there were Bruce Out chants when West Brom went 2-0 up in the October which were drowned out by supportive cheers. He was cheered and had his name chanted by the away end when we played Bolton at the end of October. I heard faint Bruce out chants at the end of the Fulham home game, then the Fat Geordie Bastard song when Wigan scored the winner in his final game. Bearing in mind Wigan scored in the 94th minute, there is actually a video on YouTube showing the chant starting just after Wigan score and ends as it starts to die down. The video is 90 seconds long...

You mention Tim Sherwood's excuses - he was booed during Ledley King's testimonial.

You also say that Bruce has only ever commented on us when asked and was gracious after the 3 games this season. He mentioned us and the 'abuse' unprompted in a post match interview on Sky at the start of the season for starters and whilst I do know how the press works, neither of us have the full transcript of the numerous interviews and press conferences that he's mentioned us in. After the cup game he said words to the effect of "We've beaten Sunderland 3 times and they're in the relegation zone. Ha ha." Gracious as ever.

It's funny because he was challenged on his comments on Goals on Sunday just after his abuse tales started to appear and backtracked like fuck, blamed the Chronicle for misquoting him and said it was pressure from the press rather than fan abuse. It's funny how these quotes keep appearing so much for someone who was 'misquoted?'
Cracking post, as ever

i enjoyed his after match interview. "this is not the time to whinge, but the first goal was not a free kick and the second was not a corner"
He's always been the same. There's not a 'steve bruce blames' website for nowt. It's always been excuse after excuse with him. He can't lose with dignity.

There has been many a post on here stating that Steve Bruce claims to have been sacked for being a Geordie .I really don't need to trawl through posts to find that as we all know it's been incorrectly attributed to him.
When I say he's known nothing other than sweetness and light I meant from a professional standpoint.Great success as player and captain of Man Utd and he has never been hounded by a current employers fans like he was here.Hes naturally going to cop a fair bit from likes of Man City and Liverpool due to his United links and imagine clubs he has left as a manager in an attempt to better himself are a little bitter towards him now as well but never while he was in charge and certainly not to extent he got here.
Tim Sherwood got booed.Huge difference between that and personal chants aimed at him mind.
As for this Ha ha thing how can you actually be quoted on that and even if he did have a wry smile so fuck.He got sacked in his opinion wrongfully and endured a load of abuse into the bargain. Trust me if that happened to me and I then went on to beat my ex employers 3 times they'd be getting a lot more than a chuckle aimed there way!
Fans only ever see it from there own blinkered point of view anybody who sways from that gets dogs abuse . Every pundit who predicts a sunderland defeat gets it on here, every media outlet that doesn't quite give us what the fans perceive to be adequate coverage in comparison to the big boys gets it for being biased, every referee who gives a dodgy call hates us and so on and so forth. This goes for every set of fans not just us by the way.
My point is that that Bruce has vented his spleen a little (not to the extent you'd think given comments on here) but so what? Given the chants and the numerous comments on here it only adds fuel to his argument that his roots became an issue.Ive said before if fans choose to dislike him because of his heritage that's fair enough just stop hiding behind this we aren't bothered about them they are obsessed with us persona because it's basically bollocks. We are equally as bad although not quite as delusional regarding expectation.

I'm not aware of many folk in here saying Bruce exclusively states the reason for his sacking was the Geordie connection. In the same way you demanded others prove his quotes, let's see these legions of posts in here backing up that assertion.

I want at least 12 direct references or I'm calling bullshit.

You don't half post some shite.

Nonsense.

That was bang out of order and shows how vile SOME fans are and how Reid can say that part and parcel is beyond me. I'd have went fuckin off it.No way should that be accepted as the norm. If somebody comes up and gives you a right hander are you the bigger person for walking away?
Reid never had a personal chant sang by thousands aimed at him either.
