He had Bent, Gyan, Cana etc sold out from under him and wasn’t given the sale proceeds. Short didn’t want to invest any more than he had.

Admittedly he may not have had much say on who left but he spent an absolute fortune. Way more than any other manager. He spent good money on players like Gardner, O’Shea and wickham. Every signing he made was a complete dud and the wages he offered to average free transfers we ridiculous. We spent millions on those players for four or five seasons afterwards.

I honestly don’t know why he wants back in. The ridicule he gets is cruel. He looked ill when he left the mags. Fast forward a couple of months and he’s tanned, looked well, watching the cricket in Dubai.
He’s had his time, he was a decent manager despite not being a big enough name for the mags but he needs to pack it in.

On the balance he's crap more than he is good
He's sacking record is his highest stat
