Johnson isn't a great leader by almost any stretch of the definition though. It doesn't matter if you're a Conservative, or slightly right of centre, his performance can in no way be contorted in to 'great leadership'. He has repeatedly delayed on decisions in order to make decisions by force after being backed in to a corner.

Like calling for a lockdown as soon as he seen SAGE evidence when Johnson didn’t but then did a few weeks later? Like asking the PM to review Christmas easing as soon as it was evident that the new variant was sweeping through communities? Like calling for a functioning test and trace system in the hands of local authorities when measures were being released?

There are copious examples (if you choose to see it) where he has called for things well in advance then Johnson does it in hindsight and somehow has the gall to label Starmer Captain Hindsight. It really is incredible to watch. It’s even more incredible to watch people go along with it.

Not to sound like an 'i told you so' but I posted on here several times during the leadership race when corbyn finished that whoever took over would be attacked and labelled whatever immature schoolboy names the Tories could come up with, just like Corbyn was, and all the thickies would lap it up. And here we are. Like clockwork. It's pathetic

I think this Govt more than any other we have seen have understood, and based their actions around the fact that making people feel something resonates much more with people than actual facts and detail.

Once they started doing that they saw success with it and so went all in on it and now we see on a weekly, if not daily, basis that lies with a positive sounding message behind them which make someone feel nice, are far more impactful than truth laid out bare with damning evidence of blundering mistakes

It’s not just about making people feel nice. It’s also about making them angry at alternative targets (immigrants on boats, the EU, unions, lawyers, the ‘woke’). They know how to appeal to the primal instincts of certain demographics. It’s sad but it’s nowt new. The only difference is, whilst previous government have dabbled in similar populism, they’ve also been relatively competent in governing. This lot are completely talentless populists who are in power on the back of a single word concept.
