How can he not understand? If, for example, an England player who had participated in anti-racist knee taking protests (that Southgate vocally supported) went to sign for a club owned by a state that implemented segregationist policies that discriminated against black people, would he not understand backlash to that either?

It’s an entirely ludicrous stance he’s taken here. They’ve tied themselves in knots.

From a football point of view and a crap as Capello was for England. He told Beckham that he wouldn’t be playing for England anymore unless he played at a level high enough to be picked. The same should stand now, take your blood money but sorry you don’t get to play for England anymore.

It won’t happen though because the torries jumped into bed with the Saudis and there’s a huge elephant in the room that isn’t allowed to be critiqued. Let’s just pretend the Saudi league is one of the top leagues out there. Southgate’s time is up. All he had to say was I understand the boo’s from a small minority.

You know fine well why Henderson the Hypocrite got booed.

He put himself up as the poster boy for LGBTQ+ rights with his posing in rainbow laces etc and had a huge article in the Liverpool match day programme saying how proud he was to support LGBT+ rights , how all people of all persuasions should be treated equally and how he could never look his family and friends in the eye unless he supported those beliefs.
Then he got offered Megabucks by the headchopper and gay hating state of Saudi, changed his tune and said " Fuck my beliefs, fuck my conscience , just gimmee the money 💰💰💰💰 "

To the best of my knowledge Ronaldo has never done that, but please enlighten us.
Show us where state authorised imprisonment and executions are routinely carried out in Palestine then ...

It's abhorrent that people are discriminated against or punished for their sexual proclivities, wherever in the world it happens. It's disgusting when an already very wealthy flag bearer for the gay community then shits on his support for them purely for monetary greed and he deserves whatever he gets from football fans.
They know EXACTLY what he's done and why and they let him know.

Should be no where near the England squad and Southgate making himself look embarrassing picking him.

He plays in a league 1 level league with crowds below conference league to get his blood money.

I've defended Southgate before but his recent squads have just been stupid and if he takes these players to the euros he will be rightly sacked

I’ll be honest mate and say he shouldn’t be anywhere near the England squad. The second he jumped into bed with the Saudis his international career should have been over.

I think there is a difference however. I’m not sure Trippier has set himself up as an ally (if he has, not to the same extent). And Trippier is plying his trade in a country that does not legislate against homosexuality. I take your point about who he plays for but the optics are very different

I must have missed the bit when Trippier supported then betrayed the LGBTQ+ community and went to play in Saudi Arabia.
No fan of Trippier, but he didn't put himself on a pedestal as captain of his club and country then crap all over it.

No but if you choose to ply your trade with a club that’s owned by the government that’s committing the atrocities, you’re no better than the one being paid to play in Saudi Arabia.
