But they are in every other country as well. The standard of county cricket is poor but because they have got money they are just signing oversea players instead of putting the hard yards in and developing their own.

Why should counties bother when the ECB are doing absolutely nothing to help promote the red ball game? Durham got absolutely no appreciation from the ECB for trying to go down that route

So what do the counties do to promote the county game. Good old Durham play their home matches in the championship starting on a Monday so hard working decent folks like yourself have to take time off work to watch some cricket while everyone at the club had the weekend off.
They should be suing every Saturday and Sunday they are supposed to be s professional organization

Durham tried doing it the right way and got royally shit on from a great height hence I don't mind us bringing in players like Watling, Bancroft for example last season. Why should clubs like Durham invest a fortune on developing young players when we get nowt back? Jennings the key example. Playing on a Saturday or a Monday won't have any impact on the development of a player
Sibley looks like he'd struggle in the NEPL.

The major function for counties is to produce cricketers that's what they get their multi million pound hand out for.without the money the England team raise the counties go bust.

What did Durham get out of Jennings?
Different level - I just don't think he has the technique for Test Match cricket. In saying that, I'd love him to get big score and England chase this score down - just can't see it though.
I knew a lad once who scored 1400 league runs one year in the old Durham Coast League - moved up the next year to the Durham Senior League and barely scored 300 all year - the better bowlers worked out his technique and main scoring areas almost immediately and he found it a massive struggle.
You can’t prioritise everything so to me it was correct that the white ball got focus up to 2019. If Giles and Silverwood are to be believed it’ll move back to red now (notwithstanding the window for the Hundred)
