If the England team was made up entirely of former public schoolboys and we wanted the other 90% of the population and players to get the opportunity to play for the national team then I'd say a quota system would get support on here. In fact probably more from the very people who are against the SA quota system.
And that is ignoring all of the history and inequality of the issue.

I know what you’re saying but if you get say ethnic minority or (to a lesser extent) working class icons it can draw kids in. Even though Archer is Bajan I think having him playing on BBC in the Hundred next year will be big for example.
Also really hope the system sustains state educated cricketers going forwards - fee paying schools are making up a bigger portion of the team year by year, which is a concern.

So your saying teams should be selected on tokenism, come on you can't think that is right nor is it showing equality. Its top level sport play your best team and show true equality.
The ECB and CSA should be working to give the lower classes in society better opportunities and facilities that match those at public schools, you only have to look in this country at the kings college in Somerset which Jos Butler attended to see the gap in what even the counties offer compared to a Public School, look at the Pietersen documentary in SA where they went to his old school the opportunities he got compared to the lower classes in unreal, this is where the issue is and to an even more extent in SA.
The Best 11 available (bar when players need to be rested) at all times, theres enough cricket in all formats to give up and coming players opportunities and we have seen all international teams rotating players in the last few years.

No, I’m not advocating tokenism (although I’m on the fence on the SA thing as it’s massively complicated over there).
Just saying that an England side which is a real mix will help in growing the sport.

What exactly do they want when they bang on about equality? Equality of opportunity is good, that's what you should strive for. But too much of this is a Communist twist of equality of outcome and equity (stuff like so-called positive discrimination). Which is truly tyrannical and awful.
