SOL expansion

the hesitant/risk averse/bedwitters ... wont want to see any extension and happy for our stadium to remain second fiddle to sid james (or wherever they move to)
I think the club will tweak ticket prices for 2 or 3 years to test demand while we have this scarcity of supply re. tickets before any extension.

Just my view and nothing to back it up but fairly certain that's what the plan will be.

Surely that’ll just prove that not everyone can afford to pay higher prices and will stop going. They’ll just be replaced by part timers

We don't know. Conventional wisdom on this board was keep it cheap ("should be a tenner") but tickets costing 43 for Bournemouth and Brentford going instantly. Tickets at 149 going.

So we don't know tbh.

If we're an established PL club with a big(ger) stadium then tourists and part timers will make up a chunk of the crowds
Sad but true
We already have to an extent. We have 5-6,000 more supporters than last season. Where did they come from?😁 and about 12-15,000 more than we had in league one.

Their stadium is irrelivant to us, we shouldn't extend on what they do.

We've had concerts with a smaller capacity, also if they get a brand new ground we wouldn't be able to compete with that anyway.

That said, I'm happy to think about an extension now. The club is highly likely to be PL side next season and the owners are showing investment will not be a problem.

I get it but I think they'll be assessing demand and will start the process this season, if we are safe'ish by March. They may well start the build before the end of the season to get it up and running late next season.

I don't think the current owners are thinking about the worst case scenario in reality and are looking at staying up and building a good side.

They are still proper supporters they just didn’t like watching shite football.

I think us city and Leeds have shown you have a cap of about 30k loyal fans who will go every week, even though at times your eyes bleed watching it :D

I had a season ticket through the league 1 days, but I genuinely don’t have a problem with people who had better things to do with there time, it was horrific at times :D

If our owners think increasing capacity is feasible and required then I'm not going to doubt them.

They have done enough of a good job so we can have full confidence in their decisions.

I think it will come sooner rather than later. We have ambitious owners who clearly want to take us to the next level.

With a bigger stadium we'll see more day trippers with half and half scarves on

People who stayed away during protests? Thats what Newcastle like to claim.

Truth is big games and a feel good factor will always bring out people, and winning results and performances bring people back more often. Were doing both now

So a lad who maybe went a few times a season in the championship is now going most weeks. Hes not a new supporter, just a more frequent one now.

Then youll get people who had no interest in football jumping on the bandwagon becauae we are in the Premier league. Its easy to scoff at these, but theyre paying their money and they might get hooked, potentially next year theyll be season ti ket holders.

Then theres die hard fans who have persuaded friends to go. Again, potentially these are season ticket holders next season.

The big thing for me is we are getting things right, on the pitch and seemingly were getting there off it too (particularly with social media). While were on this roll wed be daft not to look at expansion, even if its decided not to be worth it

That will only be by choice, I think we will be able to sell another 5k season tickets to people already registered as existing supporters.

The club may make a conscious decision on I keep more game to game tickets back but I think that would be a mistake.

I think they'll definitely keep more back and they'll be at a higher price ( semi corporate type tickets)

Most big clubs limit season ticket to make a bigger profit on match to match tickets instead of discounted season tickets. They might add some season tickets but I'd be very surprised if it was anywhere near 5000

I think this is overplayed.
Were not Manchester United or Liverpool, with vast amounts of overseas fans who make a once in a lifetime trip from Taiwan or the US to watch a match so they can claim to be a fan.

Our day trippers will be people like me who support the lads, follow them from a distance but simply cannot afford the time or cost of a 10hr round trip for a football match all that often. (In the championship i managed 4 home games)

Or theyll be students at Durham/Sunderland universities. Or people from afar working in the area who just like football. Whenever ive worked away ive tried to get to a local match just for something to do.

Either way the fact theyre coming should be celebrated. Theyre paying money through the turnstiles and if they enjoy themselves they might do it again.

The only time these "daytrippers" become a problem is if it means local fans cant get tickets. And thats where the discussion over stadium expansion starts.

My expectation would be the front section (the one we don’t put away fans in, in the North stand) will likely be corporate type tickets, but the large section behind will all be normal tickets, so still the majority:

I've never once said we'll be like Manchester United or Liverpool. We'll see an increase in fans who will attend random matches but not all matches.

Luckily being '2nd fiddle to the mags' won't be a consideration for the owners. They'll do the necessary pre-planning and won't rush into anything
