A lot by League 1 standards, and bugger all by PL standards. I'll put my neck on the line and say £3-5m.

so that would be around 3 times the average?

i liked your post btw, however i still don't grasp the need to worry just yet for us, as a fan i'm interested what's going on football wise money is the owners worry and i for one think he's done an ok job, ive never been a hater.......he gambled and didn't need to but i do think he needs to step up his hunt for a buyer, best for both club and himself to leave now.

Benitez, as we "have" to call him ,not Rafa, wants to take the club on if not the same as last season, to do this you need to invest, stand still like the past and you will be caught out...........i'm expecting between 20 and 40 million invested in the squad and i'm thinking Benitez will want a lot more as in truth we over achieved last season and he knows it will be difficult to repeat.........positions 8th downwards are fair game and as much as we all expect next season at NUFC , many teams will spend, we just expect us to keep up with the Jones's
20-40m buys you Jack shit these days

just interested in what you think you will spend, you don't have to answer if its a difficult question for you, ive seen on here 10 million being muted.

It's difficult to say without undertsanding what our fianancial situation is/ambitions of the owners. It wouldn't surprise me if we did spend close to £10m, accepting that players will be moving on in the process. The player turnover this summer is going to be high, yet again. Several players have returned to their parent clubs after being on loan and we have a few players out of contract. Out of that £10m, we could be brining in 10 plus players.

I think you'll have worked out by now, I'm only taking the piss about what you will and won't spend. Reading the OP it appears everything is in check, your wage bill is relatively low compared to the rest of the league so I imagine you'll invest enough to compete.

At lot more. The whole division spent a total of £4.5m, and £2m of that was spent by Blackburn and Wigan.

As I've said before, I wrote it because I was asked to. I didn't write with the idea of points scoring or with any preconceptions. I just wanted to give a reasonable overview of what I saw in your numbers and, hopefully, put it in terms that weren't too difficult for a non-accountant.

is that net spend ? ;)

Ashley has said that he can have what the club generates. Before sales that will be, what? 30 million, maybe a little more. They have loads of players, many of whom Benitez signed. He will have to wheel and deal, like everyone else. I fail to see his problem.
The amount he has to spend isn't the issue, it's more about control, he wants total control over who is signed. Last season caballero was all agreed but it was shit canned as ashley/barnes/Charnley thought a keeper wasn' needed. Also anything over approx 12m is referred up over Charnleys head for approval. Also improvements to the training ground and academy set up are also an issue

We know that but we don't have the money to spend 100 million, this "spend what we earn" could mean anything but he's right to not spout off like the WHU board about wanting to spend a big big amount.

The PL is on a level that financially we can't compete after the relegation last time around, it knocks you back years if you drop out, the bar is set very high on fees and wages.........can i ask you would you be surprised if come the summer is over and we go again that Michael Owen is still our record signing? i won't be.

I’m no Accountant so a question to the OP; the last time we went down Ashley went the great lengths to make his personal input into the club known and perhaps exaggerated and he’s done so again this time.

These interest free loans are never offset by him using the many seasons profits we’ve had to repay any of his loans and from a lay persons view it seems all he is doing is making it harder for anybody else to buy as he’s adding in money when he gets the opportunity.

The accounts show no revenue for the millions of pounds worth of advertising he gets but do show how much we spend at his tacky shops. He outsourced the concessions a few seasons ago.

Call me a cynic but it would be a very easy conclusion to suggest that he’s using the club’s accounts to both help his other interests and make his own position as owner stronger.

The man is a complete twat.

To be fair if he gets £30 million plus what he makes in sales which should easily be 30-35m then a 60 odd million budget is more than enough to be getting on with. Big if though!

I see Rafa the poor sod has sacrificed his summer holiday again to try and get deals done early. That will be a waste, I thought he would have learnt his lesson with that last year.

Fair enough we only have what we have it's just the constant messsing around and moving the goalposts at board level that annoys most of us.

If he ever did use cash from profits to repay the loans he's made to you, you;d probably hear the howls of protest from Middlesbrough. That fact of the provision of advertising is made is, rightly, disclosed. It has no value attached to it because the opportunity cost to Newcastle of not charging for it is not quantified in the accounts, and therefore has no impact on the figures presented. You may feel that it should, but that's not what accounting standards say. You can only attach values to transactions that actually occurred, not notional ones.

probably won't be far away with those figures, we wont be making early signings...............rinse and repeat will do for me, best most teams can hope for.

It's a bit like a fencing match. Everyone is making feints, watching for someone else to make the first moves, and then a frantic flurry of activity towards the end.

world cup coming up, not many will be signing till after it

Same. Signing dubravka, Kenedy and a striker will be as good as we can hope for then a couple of squad players. Long as Benitez stays and the team give the same level of work rate and commitment mid table will do us fine. A few seasons of top 10 should be the aim then take it from there.

I reckon we will make a semi final next season, about time we did and took the cups seriously again instead of throwing them
