SMB Tennis thread

Just read an article about edmond believing he can win it its good to have confidence but thays ridiculous surely

Yeah, I think he'll be lucky to get past the 3rd round. Probably his weakest surface, only ever won 3 matches at Wimbledon in his career, stop start year with injuries and general loss of form, it would be one of the biggest shocks on the men's side in my time following the sport. I'd say Dan Evans will have more chance of going further this year.

Only a casual follower of tennis. When's Bouchard on?

She's in the top half of the draw, so she'll be playing on Tuesday and the order of play for that won't come out until tomorrow evening. She'll be on a medium to low court as she's not as relevant now, and is playing an unspectacular opponent, so she could literally start anytime between 11am and 7pm. She actually lost 12 games in a row in her only grass match this season.

I'm going to be brutally honest with you, I'm not watching her for the standard of her tennis. It's more just an extension of following her Instagram account.

I'm getting excited now. Got a 5/1 acca of Anderson, Gulbis, Khachanov, Chardy and Monfils.

Anyone else got anything on?

Have done the SkyBet boost of Nadal, Federer and Djokovic all to reach the semis at 7/1, also got Djokovic to beat Federer in the final at 4/1.

Feel like a lot has been made of Nadal's draw but if he plays like last year he will make the semis no problem, also with the draw Federer and Djokovic have got it would be a massive shock if they dont make the semis.

I can't believe the big man Karlovic is 6/5 to win 3-0 against Arnaboldi. I doubt he'll lose more than 15 points on serve in the match.

I've gone for a 4 fold of Potapova, Svitolina, Yastremska and Ostapenko. The latter is the very definition of a 50/50 match and could easily be a heavy defeat either way, but boosted it up a bit.

McNally was actually the favourite there and has had some really good wins on grass this year and has massive potential. Experience possibly helped and in a year or two, it might be different, but that's a great win. I'll look forward to watching some highlights when I get in.

Well done Heather.

Well done Heather.

Kontaveit next for her. That'll be tough but it's arguably Kontaveit's weakest surface.

Yeah, I'd favour Kontaveit, but it is winnable. Kontaveit hasn't really been firing since Stuttgart and wasn't too convincing against Harriet Dart the other week, Dart slipped and had a medical timeout and wasn't really the same after, so that could have been different. Mind, I'm pretty sure this was Heather's first win of 2019 above ITF or WTA quals level, so even getting that win today is a bit of bonus, so she can look at it as 70 points in the bag, big prize money and a basically a free shot at a top 20 player, where it wouldn't be a huge upset if she won. I'd imagine the odds would be in and around 1/2 Anett, 6/4 Watson.

I'm watching Osaka, but looks like slam Zverev, or 2019 Zverev is on display, although it wasn't the easiest matches as Vesely does have grass pedigree. Looks like Tsitsi isn't having it all his way either. It would be a bit of a blow if either / both of those go out.

Osaka drops the first set.

Also, without wanting to look too far ahead, FO finalist and #16 seed Vondrousova is out, so a bit of an opening in R3 for whoever wins that match. Mind, Vondrousova is certainly one who you'd say grass was their weakest surface, so was was maybe a bit fortunate that she was the 9-16 seed in that section, especially when it could have been Serena or Bencic.

Tsitipas and zverev both struggling badly....Be a shame as djokovics half to the final gets so much easier....Monfils also a break down in the 1st
