SMB Film Thread 2026

Bone Temple 9/10. Don't see any spoilers and just go and see it would be my advice 👍 there's so many ways they can do the final film now, can't stop thinking about the film since seeing it

Same it has good reviews think I'll go Tuesday night unless I can convince the Mrs its a comedy / romance - I did in the late 90s tell her that event horizon was a detective murder mystery as she hates horror....there was murder and it was mystery what happened to the ship so mostly right. It still gets mentioned.....

Was absolutely brutal and uncomfortable viewing at times but fantastic film

there are various clips from tropic thunder, this or the negotiating on the phone scene - and each time i'm processing the fact its tom cruise in a bald cap 'doing comedy' without actually getting into the moment of the film. risky business was a comedy movie so its where he stared but i just can't process it in my own head - perhaps all the mission impossible films, the stunts (the running!) & the scientology have typecast him in my own mind.
knight and day is a decent comic turn from cruise. I totally agree about your tropic thunder comment.

Dust Bunny(2025). Like a cross between Leon and Delicatessen this is a decent way to spend 100 minutes. Some ropey CGI but also some excellent set pieces. 6.5/10.

Anyone seen She Rides Shotgun or Tornado (Both 2025), both had big ups from a YT Channel, but from reviews ive found, sound bang average.
She rides shotgun very average. Toronado worth a watch.
The Rio. Netflix

Damon and Afleck in good form

Based around an elite police squad full of twists and turns around the murder if their captain. Everyone is a suspect.

Last half of film is mint. Comes together really well, some excellent facking shoots outs.

Cobra gives it a solid 7.5/10

Been a few really good Netflix films last few months

Behind the High Wall (1956) - YouTube

Tom Tully is a prison governor taken hostage by inmates during a breakout. The car he is being held in goes off the road, and he shoots one of the bad lads who is carrying a suitcase full of cash. Tully buries the cash, hoping to retrieve it, so he and his disabled wife can retire in peace. Mechanic John Gavin has the death of a cop pinned on him. Tully knows that Gavin is innocent, but can’t reveal this, without admitting that he’s buried a load of stolen money.

Decent crime/noir film that looks at all the bad choices made by someone in power, who has had his fill of being a law abiding citizen. It’s all a bit low stakes and meekly handled in practice. Enjoyable enough, but never feels like it matches the promise of the premise.

5.5/10

My Death is a Mockery (1952) - YouTube

Donald Houston is on death row, recounting his tale to a priest. His failed fishing business was preyed upon by smuggler Bill Kerr, who persuaded him to made trips to France to collect booze. Things went awry.

I really liked this simple tale of someone who tries to make good, but is dealt a bad hand, so tried his luck with a wrong ‘un. Houston’s shift from quiet, honest citizen to desperate, manipulative cad is a stretch too far, but it’s an entertaining performance nevertheless. The whole thing is tightly paced and economically presented. It doesn’t rate highly online or in the usual tomes, but I enjoyed it more than I thought. A smart little B film.

7/10

I'm Chevy Chase.. You're not.

Still trying to work out if "Chevy" was just an act or if he really was an "asshole". :D

A decent 6.5/10.
Seemed a lot didn't like him. Its a decent watch just to remember some quality American comedy. But he did seem a bit sociopathic.

Eden (2025) Amazon prime

Jude law, Daniel Bruhl, Vanessa Kirby, Sydney Sweeney and some irritant.

Cast named above were all brilliant in this Ron Howard film, based on a mysterious true story where post world war 1 a German couple settle on a remote island, they live in harsh conditions, a German family and a baroness and her bodyguard end up on the island too, then all sorts of shit housery commences.

Really enjoyed this, fully recommend and gets a strong cobra score of 8.5/10

The Rip - Netflix Ben Affleck and Matt Damon two cops who come across a big stash of cartel money.
Enjoyed it 2 hrs of easy watching 7/10

Voice of Hind Rajab. Brilliant, devastating, but think twice before watching. It is incredibly emotionally intense

Only 4 actors, set in a Palestinian Red Crescent office as they try and co-ordinate the rescue of a 6 year old child. The movie uses the actual voice recordings from the attempted rescue.

I sobbed.

It's definitely a 9 having had time to absorb it. THAT bit with Feinnes had me grinning from ear to ear, you'll know what I mean if you've seen it.
Just been to see it agree with the 9 rating. Only negative for me was the off the scale barn scene- but I am a bit of a ‘gore’ wimp!

28 Years Bone temple - 7.5 /10 Fiennes and O-connel good a bit of a lack of major plot to move the story on and too much unnessary flaying alive for me - looks like no fun at all - worse than last years effort adn my Mrs didnt like at all, and she loved last years.

I swear - I'd give it a 7.5 / 10 and the Mrs woudl give it a 9 / 10 funny, poigniant, sad pretty much everything I liked about last years 28 years

Is this a region 2 release?

The Rip (2026) - Netflix

A slick narrative without much in the way of character development, but the way the story is peeled back is pleasing. Damon and Affleck are excellent, and there’s some very able support from the rest of the cast. It’s well-paced and atmospheric. Good stuff.

7.5/10

Rental Family (2025) - 5/10 - Brendan Fraser starts as a struggling American actor living in Tokyo who joins an agency providing fake family members or friends to assist with various situations. I liked the premise of this unusual idea but unfortunately it came across as very stilted and the intended emotional pull of scenes were just a bit lame. It was all very paint by numbers and I came to the conclusion that Fraser is not the most versatile of actors, with the same expression rolled out time after time.
