My last three of 2025.

Deep Cover (2025) 7/10
Three people from an improv class are offered undercover work by cop Sean Bean. They happlessly end up infiltrating London's gangland. Reasonable, unchallenging comedy.

Never Look Away (2018) 9/10
The history - and personal secrets - of post-war Germany told through the experiences of an artist from Dresden, loosely based on fact.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) 9/10
The Criterion 4K restores the look of the film as intended, with very heavy grain throughout. Wasn't a big fan of the film when I first saw it, but now - through the prism of Epstein - it seems much more relevant.

Top 5 of 2025, in no particular order:

  • One Battle After Another
  • A Real Pain
  • Sinners
  • Train Dreams
  • House Of Dynamite

Honorable mentions for September 5th as my biggest surprise of the year. Bring Her Back as scariest film of the year. Black Bag for showing that movies can sometimes actually be BETTER by being short and punchy. And Mission Impossible, Superman and F1: The Movie which were just pure, unashamed, Hollywood popcorn munching entertainment, but actually done well for a change. (Been years since I've seen a typical summer 'blockbuster' movie that wasn't just tedious shite.)

Didn't realise A Real Pain was from 2025, that was certainly one of my favourites. Probably that, or The Ballad of Wallis Island.

Enjoyed One Battle, not sure found it to be as quite as brilliant as some others. Felt the same watching Marty Supreme last week.

Godfather - 10/10
Godfather part 2- 10/10
Dune- 5/10
Dune 2- 4/10
Superman (new one)- 7/10
Jurassic World Rebirth- 2/10
Mission Impossible Final Reckoning - 3/10
Sinners- 7.5/10
Heretic- 6/10
Deadpool and Wolverine- 8/10
Gladiator 2- 6/10
Ghostbusters Frozen Empire- 2/10

Mission Impossible was abysmal, tedious watch, dozens of minutes of Cruise doing nothing exciting whatsoever with a nonsensical plot.

Twelve Angry Men (1957)
Brighton Rock (1948)
The Third Man (1949)
Angels with Dirty Faces (1938)

Sorcerer (1977)
Little Caesar (1931)
The Defiant Ones (1958)
The Roaring Twenties (1939)

Got myself a three month unlimited card at a discount with my blue light card - think it was 45 ish for three months, obviously I started with a classic the new Anaconda with Jack Black and Paul Rudd - surprsingly enjoyable take your brain out with some good laughs. A solid and surpising 7/10

Killer Constable, never heard of that one will check out.

It’s a wuxia film from Hong Kong. I don’t know if it’ll be many peoples’ cup of tea!
I checked it out, fully expected a mystery with Robert Powell or such like. going around London murdering folk 😊 Having said that I have added three of these type of movies I found on YouTube , Sweet is Revenge, 36th Chamber and The Convict Killer. They will be my cup of tea at some point.

36th Chamber is great. Totally cheesy, ridiculous nonsense, but I loved it. I’ve not seen the other two.

I do like the sound of this alternative Killer Constable, though!

Forgot September 5, excellent choice. Forgot I Swear and only watched recently. Another good choice. Oh and Tornado! You win best list although I hated 28 years later.

I have a massive soft spot for 28 years later because I booked a night or 2 on lindisfarne for me and the then girlfriend. Things weren't going great between us and I thought some time together with no distractions might help us focus on each other.

We walked round the corner and found ourselves on a film set with Danny Boyle and Arron Taylor Whatsit.

I have a new girlfriend now
