Genuinely surprised that they've sacked him, I don't think Liverpool are usually ruthless enough. The timing and communication seems strange given that Alonso has gone to Chelsea, but maybe he was never on the radar and Sarah's comments about needing to play "Heavy Metal football" is resonating with the board as well as the fans/players.
Here's my top 3 replacement suggestions:
Andres Iraola - the obvious choice. Premier League proven, very similar counter pressing and high intensity football style to Klopp. Perhaps someone who could get the best out of Kerkez/Frimpong.
Sebastian Hoeneß - done a good job at Stuttgart. Delivered their first trophy in 2 decades and qualified for the Champions League 2 out of the last 3 years after joining them in the relegation playoffs. Young manager, high intensity football with a slightly greater element of control and possession. Somewhere on the scale closer to Klopp in terms of style.
Francesco Farioli - this man is the real deal and every big club in Europe should have him on a shortlist. In a season where Benfica went the season unbeaten and Sporting only lost twice, Farioli's Porto still won the league by 6 points. Whilst his style is high pressing, he's much more defensively robust and likes to create a more possession based approach. His "failure" at Ajax of finishing 2nd should now be taken into context of them finishing 5th both the season before and the season after his year there. He's only 37 and it would be a huge step up, but it would be a pretty bold choice.
