Slot sacked.

Genuinely surprised that they've sacked him, I don't think Liverpool are usually ruthless enough. The timing and communication seems strange given that Alonso has gone to Chelsea, but maybe he was never on the radar and Sarah's comments about needing to play "Heavy Metal football" is resonating with the board as well as the fans/players.

Here's my top 3 replacement suggestions:

Andres Iraola - the obvious choice. Premier League proven, very similar counter pressing and high intensity football style to Klopp. Perhaps someone who could get the best out of Kerkez/Frimpong.

Sebastian Hoeneß - done a good job at Stuttgart. Delivered their first trophy in 2 decades and qualified for the Champions League 2 out of the last 3 years after joining them in the relegation playoffs. Young manager, high intensity football with a slightly greater element of control and possession. Somewhere on the scale closer to Klopp in terms of style.

Francesco Farioli - this man is the real deal and every big club in Europe should have him on a shortlist. In a season where Benfica went the season unbeaten and Sporting only lost twice, Farioli's Porto still won the league by 6 points. Whilst his style is high pressing, he's much more defensively robust and likes to create a more possession based approach. His "failure" at Ajax of finishing 2nd should now be taken into context of them finishing 5th both the season before and the season after his year there. He's only 37 and it would be a huge step up, but it would be a pretty bold choice.

In a way he's got what he wanted. I think Slot was probably sacked over what's happened off the pitch rather than what happened on it. As a neutral outside observer it seems mad to sack the manager that got them 5th with UCL football secured for another season
...in a season where Chelsea and the mags have imploded massively.
I'd see it as finishing 5th despite being shite for big stretches of the season.

They've also got a massive rebuild on their hands again, gonna need a centre half, winger, arguably a full back now Robertson has left, at least 1 midfielder and an attacker with ekotike out for what will be most of next season and isak who is made of twigs. Bit of a shopping list considering what they spent last season

They lost the same number of games as newly promoted us ffs and there's people saying it's harsh

Aye there was a few circumstances that played a part but he signed all those players last summer with no real idea how it was going to work
“He” didn’t sign them. Hughes signed them. He also signed Iraola for Bournemouth. DOFs like HCs who owe them one…..or two.

Their summer transfer plan will be interesting. New boss almost certain to want some new players and maybe set up so others on their way out.

Someone like Curtis Jones perhaps for us?

Gotta be Iraola, but even then there’s such a massive leap from what he’s done to what he’ll be expected to do as a minimum as Liverpool

Not a case of wanting, they need em, lost a winger, fullback and centre half thats before even looking at losing 1 striker for definite and having another that breaks at the slightest touch

I hope that's the end of their interest in Geertruida, not because I don't think he'd be a success there, but because (very selfishly) I still want him to sign for the lads permanently.
Their interest ended in January, having worked with slot before they just wanted him as an emergency loan for cover due to injuries.
