Skiing in January or anytime to be fair can be a lottery regarding weather.,.

I've been to the same place at the same time of year and it couldn't have contrasted more. it can contrast day to day.

for me I prefer end of feb/march as its that tad warmer.

The cans are cheap mind, great city.

Most overpriced shithole on the planet, just happens to be on a nice lake. Utterly hate Geneva, even a mcdonald's is a tenner or more and forget about eating at a somewhat decent restaurant

Probably one day here one day there, only on 'perfect days' - clear blue skies and freshly fallen snow. Oh, and never on Sundays - too crowded.

If they have a car then it's very quick to pop through the tunnel to Courmayeur. If the weather is crap in one resort then it tends to be lovely in the other due to the Mont Blanc stopping the clouds.

Chamonix an hour away. Epic view of Mont Blanc and the town is big enough to eat/drink if the weathers shit.

Avoriaz as mentioned earlier, pretty snowsure, loads of slopes for beginners and ski in ski out.

Above couple of areas.

Two sets of cousins plus one uncle have retired/semi-retired a few miles due West of you. Not sure if their various houses (one of them fixes them up for a living) are in Charente or Charente-Maritime.

As you say, not too far from me.

They pack the punch of Pineau Dr Charente.

I've just booked to go there next March. The other option was Courmeyer in February. Same price but for 2 nights longer in Morzine.
