Well, it beats the hell out of me, too!

I thought I was missing something.[DOUBLEPOST=1381071074][/DOUBLEPOST]
Correct. But you are wasting your time, marra.

I know mate I know...............shorts input into the club must be well north of £100 million by now propping up the business model that is prevalent in top flight football these days....

Absolutely.

Id go so far to say that were a very attractive prospect really given our stadium and amazing support, i dont know of any other team that does as shite as we do and still get this amazing support, name one someone??

The last time the books were out we were slightly behind Fulham income wise. Would you class Fulham as a very attractive prospect?

Oh well in that case we are really fucked.
But I really would like to know where all the money from those sources I named has gone. Some £100 million and could you please explain why a man who is so successful in business is so unsuccessful when appointing staff to his latest business venture. This is obvious as to the general state of my football club or should that be entertainment centre. Business Plan what business plan?

he's only failing us from a perspective of making us an awesome football team on the field.

he's doing a pretty good job of keeping us as a company that will continue to be around in the long term. and before people start doom and glooming over relegation, the past relegations since parachute payments began. there's not a lot of them who were 'big clubs' that haven't since been back in the premiership. as long as you don't do a Portmouth and go bankrupt, we'd be back up fairly soon and the way short is trying to run us now, i doubt we'd go bankrupt

What the fuck are you on about?

Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Blackburn, Boro, Wolves, Bolton, Portsmouth = all decent sized clubs who look very unlikely to return to the Premier League any time soon.

If we are relegated our turnover will drop considerable meaning our good players (or what remains of them) will need to be sold at a loss to prevent the club going under.

Short sacked Di Canio because - in his opinion - the club can not afford to be relegated.

In the last set of accounts the money we got from Sky was around £44 million...........the concerts bring in money but its not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, probably £1 million a concert at a guess??
We certainly didn't get the stupid money in terms of sponsorship that was bandied about by some on here from the ill fated Invest in Africa crap either.
Then look at the fact the wage bill alone was around £60 million( a massive % of turnover) and the total operating expenses were over £100 million when the total turnover was £78 million and its not rocket science to spot the big black hole Shorts coin is going in to...

While some on here were wanking themselves blind over the signing of PDC, it was the point that I really questioned if Short was the right bloke for the job, and after selling our best players in the last market and buying a load of shite I decided that was it for me.

you can quote me on this post at the end of the season, but I'm certain we'll be relegated, we struggled last season with a better squad, we are considerably weaker this season, so we've got no chance.

so no foresight from the men in suits ?

so no foresight from the men in suits ?

Its the model football ( certainly in the PL ) is by and large ran on and propped up by wealthy owners pouring money in effect in the most case down the drain.

The argument re this thread and my posts is to point out the real truth to folk ( and theres a lot of them ) who think because football is awash with cash all of the clubs are.............

However its the players who have taken almost all of it .................

This links interesting and bear in mind its a little bit out of date and is only BASIC salary..

So we're pretty fucked if we go down then?

We'll always be among the top earners in the Championship by attendances. We'll always be able to attract top level Championship players, this squad proves that.

We might have a season or two in the Championship, but we'll end up in the Premier league again sooner or later.

But still, this is just taking us back to where we were as a yo-yo club and where we don't want to be. The above is true beyond doubt, we have had a whole History of this again and again and again.

The whole objective and aim of Sunderland when Quinny took over was to prevent the system of constant promotion and relegation from repeating itself and to permanently establish us into the Premier league. Now its sad to see that despite 7 years of top flight football, despite all of that investment and everything else that we achieved, we have somehow managed to fail ourselves again, fail to capitalize when things were good, undo everything that has been achieved and go back to where we started.

Are we destined to be looked in this repetitive cycle forever? I really, really believed that for how long we had been up in this league the nonsense had ended but obviously not.. Sunderland has managed to become Sunderland once again after a partially successful albeit pleasing effort to become something else!

well considering the minimum sky money this season is £60 million which falls to £24 million parachute payments for the first two seasons out of the PL .........That's £36 million lost if we come straight back and £72 million if it takes two goes....

Its not a pleasant picture really...............

This summers been a mess and we look down to me. Calls for shorts head are very premature tho. If we go down we should be pretty well placed to come back up and be stronger for it with more awareness. If we don't come back up within 2yrs that will be worrying and question will undoubtably need to be asked...

Bloody hell. When it's laid out that simply it's very scary. I tend to avoid looking at the finance side of things because we can't really help that can we, but that really is just mental. Makes Pulis a far more attractive option when you have that in mind.

Indeed..........its stay up at all costs really............after the £24 million runs out it drops to £6 million for the final two seasons of the four you get payments for.

Skys money has created a vicious cycle that invariably means going down involves a massive loss of income which impacts of course on the playing staff and then should you come back up the again massive gamble is what to spend to stay up and get the squad back up to PL standard....
