Shane Warne RIP

Really sad news, gutted 😔 an idol of mine when I was a teenager and getting into cricket in the 90s ....we all wanted to bowl like him, going to be a massive miss in the cricket World and more .....rip Warney 😢

"Bowling shane" 👌

He never did get a Test century (highest was 99 against New Zealand) but I remember him getting a 90-something against England before getting caught on the boundary going for a big hit. The English crowd initially laughed at his failure but it soon turned into a standing ovation as he walked off the field.

Always played the game the right way - hard but fair and with a smile.

He was a decent batsman despite coming in at 9, 10, or 11 for most of his career. They had such great batting in depth though that he wasn't really needed most of the time.

😔😔

Can remember he played for Hampshire v Durham years ago at the Riverside at the end of the days play he was sat up on the dressing room balcony with two bottles of Budweiser in his hands and a fag dangling out of his mouth enjoying the sunshine. There was still a few of us knocking about and a couple of kids knocking a ball about on the edge of the outfield and he came down and had a chat with us all, signed autographs and even had a bit of time with the kids and offered tips on their game to them. A great touch from a hell of a bloke.

RIP Shane, a legend of sport!

Brilliant. Think it might have been in the last Ashes they spent a few lunches with him reviewing video of kid spinners if they sent them in and you could tell how much he loved it, was a great watch.

Phenomenal bowler. Icon of the game. I think the gif @Shambo shared is the image of him bowling a ball which Phil Tuffnell said "must have spun 3 feet"

As much as I despise The S*n, I'll still give a nod of approval to the headline writer when Shane Warne had a bit of a fling with Michelle Mone

It's never been an Ashes summer since you stopped hearing an Aussie saying "Bowled Shane..."
Not even my favourite cricketer scandal headline. That has to be Geoffrey Boycott with trademark Panama hat and side of mouth grin, next to a picture of a ‘blonde divorcee’. Sunday People iirc. ‘Boycott used me as a sex toy’

My abiding memory of Shane Warne and his impact around the World is around 2005/2006 after that Ashes series. I was still in school and it was the done thing, whenever you had a ball shaped object to hand, that you'd mimmick his bowling followed by "bowling, Warney!" in a shit Australian accent. Tennis in PE never really got any further than getting the equipment out as everyone would be mimmicking his genius leg spin around the Sports hall. :)

thanks for the entertainment, Warney!

"we only wish you were English" ❤️

I'm very surprised at how I feel about this. Can't explain it but I've got to say I'm quite down (and almost weepy. Soft as sh1te?)

It's taken me by surprise (the way I feel) and it feels odd to admit it.

He was a great player and a great commentator as well.

A big loss.☹
Aye I'm the same, added to everything else that's happened and is still happening in the cricketing and wider world this winter. Just nowt but shit news atm

Absolutely. I’ve found myself choking up a few times.

He just seemed like a top bloke. A brilliant cricketer. Some one you wanted to be. I know he got some stick for his commentary but I liked it.

He was just a superstar really. One of the greatest ever.

Really hit hard this. Been watching all the tributes on sky sports news.

He was THE superstar when I was getting into cricket and even though he was "one of them" he was the one everyone wanted to emulate. I was 14 and just starting to play cricket around the time of the 2005 Ashes series so not hard to imagine the kind of influence he had.

Been a mainstay around English cricket on sky, particularly the Ashes too so next year is going to be very strange.

Its hit even harder I think as I read the news as it was breaking just after coming back from the hospital earlier where I have been having scans and tests done on my heart for ongoing issues. It really does make you think when a bloke who seems fine and is tweeting a few hours earlier just drops down dead

When most "famous" people die my reaction is "oh well, that's sad" and then move on. There are very few deaths which hit me hard. This was one of them.

Watched his documentary on Amazon last week

Really enjoyed it

His kids are late teens early 20s, they adored him and he adored them. Retired to spend more time with them.

Horrible

People didn’t like him here because he was Aussie. If he was English and bowled spin for us he woulda been an icon
