Shane Warne RIP

When most "famous" people die my reaction is "oh well, that's sad" and then move on. There are very few deaths which hit me hard. This was one of them.
Agreed. And I can't really explain it.

FWIW... the last time I felt owt like this (& the only other time I've really been hit by a celebrity death) was when Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) committed suicide 2 weeks after we saw them in concert. He left 6 bairns. Both me and the Mrs found that devastating as he was so upbeat and upfront at the concert. We still find it quite hard to listen to them.... 🙁

"Bowling Shane" Even in the heat of the most intense Ashes ever Gilly and Warne were the most likeable opponents ever.
Gilly for being like a puppy who never stopped or stood still but Warne was a megastar.
Every ball was an event. If he bowled a bad ball you wondered if he it was part of the psychological battle, if Freddie or KP hit him over the rope all eyes were on Warne for his reaction. When he took a wicket it was the batsman succumbing to the pressure of Warne. No one left the telly/seats when Warne was bowling.
I've never seen any thing like it in sport. How one man can dictate a 5 day game.

They will never be another Shane Warne. No one will come close. A sad day. RIP Warny. Good on ya mate

This isn't meant to be flippant but this feels as surreal as the day Steve Irwin died out of nowhere. RIP Shane the best bowler I've ever seen, or anyone else has ever seen

Arguably?

Tendulkar must be close like…
A great way to view an enemy that we were playing against,
Hated most of the oz team cos they were brilliant and I hated them for doing so well ,
Didn't mind as much with Warne for some reason,

He was that good. Same reason I didn’t hate McGrath. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and accept it.

This is why we’ve applauded Henry off a football pitch before.

It’s a great achievement to be so popular after the absolute scuddings he gave us! He is one of the last true Mavericks of all sports. The modern sport star is more of an athlete than a character and for that I feel privileged to have been a fan of cricket for pretty much his whole career

Its hit even harder I think as I read the news as it was breaking just after coming back from the hospital earlier where I have been having scans and tests done on my heart for ongoing issues. It really does make you think when a bloke who seems fine and is tweeting a few hours earlier just drops down dead

Yeah, it makes you think. I'm only 2 years younger than Shane. If a heart attack can happen to him at that age it can happen to anyone. I was only at the GP last week getting a lecture that my weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar were all too high. Maybe that's why it has hit me so hard.

My mate is Australian and in total mourning. Probably he was emotional and going too far but he said the equivalent for the English would be the Queen passing on!

Proper shame. I can remember the sports news in ITN or whatever at the time and saw that first bowl and was blown away by it thinking he’s definitely going to be big news. Absolute legend.

Shocked me massively this and I’m not even a cricket fan in the slightest.

I think it shows how big his name was that he’s so well known even outside of cricket.

RIP Shane
