I`m not sure why anyone would refuse to shake their hands. That is a polite thing to do when meeting anyone. Bowing or curtseying on the other hand just seems ridiculous in this day and age and seeing the likes of Theresa May bending over liked a wounded swan is just so undignified, bordering on the pathetic.

Back in the day, my granda met Prince Philip when he visited the Caterpillar factory, shook his hand and replied to his comment that 'you look like you've got a good job here' with 'not as good as thine marra'. I'd advise that.

I'd shake their hand as per common courtesy with anyone, I wouldn't bow to one of them though. I cringe when I see people bowing and curtseying to them, as per below
