Scandi noir/drama recommendations/discussion

Crime fiction about serial killers, child sex rings and people smuggling are the last refuge of the uninspired novelist. The literary equivalent of a songwriter rhyming cool with fool and school. If no one buys or loans or reads or downloads their books they’ll eventually have to fuck off and get proper jobs thus upping the imaginative quality of crime fiction available overall. They’re taking the piss out of the readers.

Paris Police 1900 starts on BBC4 this weekend. Not Scandi but could be good.

I've been enjoying The Hunt For A Killer (working through it retrospectively).
I've watched the hunt for a killer, finished it the other week via iPlayer. Thought it was canny enough, I'd probably give it 6.5/10.

whats it about? decent cast, but its netflix & most of their original danish content has been dogshit.
i'm no scandi expert but i enjoyed it. Its a bout a series of killings and a disappearance of a child which are, no spoiler intended but its pretty obvious, linked.

I’ve just started watching Occupied on Netflix. Good so far. It’s about an energy crisis and the Russians occupying Norway with the support of the EU to control oil and gas production.

Second series of Sygeplejeskolen kicks off tonight. Similar to Badehotellet.
i've just finished the first series of Sygeplejeskolen, based on this post that i've had bookmarked for years... wasnt sure about it on the first episode, was a bit call the midwife at first but by the end of the series i thought it was great, different scandi tv - will try the second series soon & i believe there may have been a third series out your way?

Badehotellet series six finished last week and has been named Best Danish Telly Series five years running now. Series seven is already in the planning.

eight series of this now, i started episode of series last night... the fact there are so many episodes puts me off slightly. not sure yet, seems a bit twee but its been on my list for years because of this post...

Fred Til Lands, a new series set in Fyn and made by the same folks who did Rita and Hjørdis (both can be found on Netflix).
was this any good? i've got it to watch but havent bothered yet... Morten Hee Andersen seems to be in most things i've been looking to watch currently, seems to have been all over danish tv?

And one I am really looking forward to. Forhøret. With a cast of Ulrich Thomsen, Lars Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Trine Dyrholm, Søren Malling, Lars Ranthe and David Dencik what is not to like. Made by Christoffer Boe who penned and directed Kriger. Forhøret is about a policeman who is determend to find the person who killed his daughter. Each episode will have a new suspect in for interrogation and the entire series takes place over twenty-four hours.
i watched this last year, and it was fricking awesome i thought, the presume as described above is excellent. i mention it because i see that trine dyrholm seems to be leading the cast of the second series which i've just acquired and it will be the next thing i watch after baderhotellet. second series ok?

I don't know if any of these have been on anyone's radar, but i've picked up & yet to watch Red Light (dutch series staring Carice van Houten), Tod Vov Frefunden (Beneath the Surface) & Maskineriet (The Machinery).

New series of Borgen will be aired here in DK 13 February. Not sure how long it usually takes for a series to be available in the UK but 'tis coming. 🙂

Excellent. Hopefully not too long a wait. The lighting looked a bit harsh there on Sidse Babett Knudsen. I hope the interiors are up to scratch, love a bit of interior porn.
No thanks , miserable stuff
Borgen is probably the least 'miserable' of the Scandi output.
