Scandi noir/drama recommendations/discussion

Not sure how long it usually takes for a series to be available in the UK but 'tis coming. 🙂

Netflix are the money behind it, in partnership with DR. I expect it to ‘drop’ in full globally once it finishes in Denmark.

Apparently there’s an English dub for the yanks… 😱

eight series of this now, i started episode of series last night... the fact there are so many episodes puts me off slightly. not sure yet, seems a bit twee but its been on my list for years because of this post...

How far into it have you reached ? Series nine is shown here from 7 February. :)

I hate watching anything with a dub. Even if I don't speak the language I get so much more from having the origional voices in.

i was wondering if there was a new one due... just about to finish series 3 which i've been on since christmas. this program works so well at this time of year, i understand why its so popular on yourside of the north sea! :) i'm going to move onto season 2 of Sygeplejeskolen next, i've just found series 3 online. i've only seen the first one and only looked at it on you mentioning it here on this thread, didnt really seem my 'bag' but after the first 2 episodes i found it really engaging... 🙃

so say all that, have you any @alexander nordic noir recommendations, either stuff you've seen or stuff you know is on the horizon (borgen aside)...

I had a look and according to this link 2022 will be a busy year for new telly series here.

A few from the list:
Badehotellet series nine (7 February).

Borgen series four (13 February).

Trom (early 2022, a six part crime drama set on the Faero Islands, starring Ulrich Thomsen).

Dopamin (Spring 2022, drama series set in a hospital by Limfjorden, Amalie Dollerup is in it).

Sygeplejeskolen series five (Autumn 2022).

The Shift (2022, drama series starring Sofie Gråbøl and directed by Lone Scherfig and according to the link already nominated for the Nordic TV and Film Fond Prize 2022).

Riget Exodus (2022, follow-up series to Riget (The Kingdom) and again directed by Lars von Trier. Lots and lots of familiar faces in this one including: Laura Christensen,
Bodil Jørgensen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Lars Mikkelsen, Nicolas Bro, Mikael Persbrandt, Tuva Nuvotny and even Alexander Skarsgård).

Familier Som Vores (2022, six part drama series directed by Thomas Vinterberg, the lad who directed thought-provoking movies like Festen, Jagten and Druk. The series is about an evacuation of Denmark and what happens when everything shuts down and the streets are empty).

I haven't seen any of these yet, of course, with none of them having aired yet. But I like the sound of Trom, it could well be wonderfully gritty. The Thomas Vinterberg series intrigues me from what little the link gives away. And putting Scherfig together with Gråbøl could be a masterstroke, am certainly going to watch that. Riget Exodus is a no-brainer for me. I loved the original Riget series, it was so utterly bizarre and von Trier is a genius in my eyes.

When I see a trailer for any of these I shall post it in here.

Of these listed I would guess that maybe Trom would be proper Nordic Noir. I love the idea of a crime series set on the Faero Islands.

First up though is series nine of Badehotellet in early February. Like you say, perfect telly for this time of the year. 😊

Looking forward to it. Keep the thread updated everyone otherwise I'll miss it.

According to this it will be up on Netflix Spring 2022.

But it won't be up before the series has been aired here in DK. It begins Sunday 13th February and with eight episodes the final episode will be aired Sunday 3rd April. My guess is that 'Spring 2022' will then mean shortly after that.

How was episode one of the brand new borgen received in Denmark @alexander ?

The newspaper reviews are up in the high notes, saying things like the new series is 'fantastic' and that the series has ''never been better'.

BT gives the new series five stars.

EB gives it five stars as well.

JP gives it four stars.

Ekko gives it five stars.

All six episodes of Trom are now up on Viaplay. I found a trailer for the series and it looks right up my street. I shall be watching that this week.

Oh, looks like the BBC will be showing the series.

Trom looks interesting. The fella with the beard (Ulrich Thomsen?) looks familiar but I don't recognize the name.

he's off quite a few different things, probably one of them faces who you've seen pop up here & there... he's excellent as the team manager in Summer 92 (on netflix), is also brilliant in Forhøret that alex recommended a year or two ago (that's a proper greatest hits of all the danish faces :) ). although, he's taken over from Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the movie Q Series and the episode called the marko effect doesnt seem to be rated very well (5.2 on imdb). i've got it to watch but just havent got round to it yet.

As well as a few international telly series. He was in Banshee for years and played in The Blacklist and The New Pope, too.

He has also been in a few international movies. One of the James Bond ones as well, but its title escapes me just now.

Just finished series nine of Badehotellet. I must be getting easily emotional in my old days as I had something in my eye during the final scene.

But it set itself up nicely for a tenth series. :)

Oh, and please watch Trom when BBC Four shows it. It is pretty good.

Was good in Banshee. Not a very nice chap.

hey @alexander - i got round to watching one of your recommendations at the weekend from a while back, Dronningen. Interesting movie and Trine Dyrholm is excellent in the lead role, although one question... in danish cinema & telly, where's the line between 'art' & 'porn'? the sex scenes were more akin to pronhub than a oscar submitted movie!? had to google it later and apparently prosthetics were used, although it all seemed real enough from where i was sat!

just acquired the movie "Margrete: Queen of the North" with Trine in the lead, and also series 2 of Forhøret that she seems to be the star of looking at imdb.

Just finished series 2 of Sygeplejeskole last night, which i'm enjoying but i have no idea why im watching it - had it been british (like call the midwife!) i wouldnt go anywhere near it. Gonna start series 4 of Badehotellet this week. Was reading something that Anne Louise Hassing had been saying, series 10 will be the final one... eight full episodes but that there's so much writing to go into it that filming won't start till next year, i guess that means it won't be till January 2024 that you get to see the outcome? Hopefully i'll have caught up by then! :)

i've just acquired that last week, i'll start it after badehotellet s4.
