They’re thick as fuck mate, they talk nonsense, lie like fuck, take “expert advice” off nuggets and the best thing is they’ve achieved fuck all because houses are getting built, the Stack and hotel are on the way and the “grass it all” comment from Fatknack is going to disappear with every brick. They are now wanting a £20m leisure centre on the seafront. Even some complaints about the hotel planning application as it is hindering tourists visiting the seafront.

Sunderland overall is sadly in a poor state, the council should in my opinion focus on two areas, one being the Seaburn and Roker seafront area and the other being the Empire Theatre area, other things can grow from there, the town doesn’t have much of an economy and the casino/cinema/Sunniside area is an example of the council being a set of fuckwits. The thing is you’d think that with some of the comments that there is no greenery at all locally...regardless of the fact of the fields between south bents and seaburn as well as Roker park. In addition to that they’ve got skate park, marine activity centre, glass centre to name but a few things. Why is that everyone has to have the opinion that we need to have everything on our doorstep! This is the reason why the city is fucked as every area fighting with each other for the same resources!

that’s been my frustration from the start with the leisure centre - the council said from the start they wouldn’t be funding one and no private developer will open one 6 miles from the one in shields. Sunderland is very well served with pools etc and just a short drive from shields yet there’s some sense of entitlement to have a duplicate facility built. They’re trying to compare Sunderland with Morpeth and Berwick who are getting new leisure centres built - it’s just comical really
Yeah exactly - Berwick is probably 50 mile from the nearest other leisure centre.
There is an argument that they built one in ashington recently therefore the Morpeth one should be pulled however I think it’s too important to the local council to keep residents on side there and as it’s existing they won’t take the decision to get rid of it.
I would like to see a leisure pool in Sunderland but it needs to be in an accessible location for the whole city. Seaburn is two bus rides for most so somewhere in town would be better.
Aye they all moan about traffic down there now so you can imagine the moans should a large facility like that be planned. They want leisure but don't want visitors. They're all over the place on Save Seaburn. They need to decide what they want. That’s a very good point , I’m not even sure the site is big enough to build it along with adequate parking at seaburn and if it went to planning no doubt there would be a whole raft of objections to it. Vaux site would be ideal but it’ll not happen at least not unless there’s a massive shift in local government and funding
No bad idea. Put a bar in it and it's actually quite a fun activity. They rebranded bowls in Australia a few years ago now all ages play and you can have a drink while doing it. Not sure it would be as popular indoors as outside in the sun mind.We need an indoor bowling green as part of any leisure facility. The council have almost destroyed the game in the city since the one at Crowtree went.
House of Zen innit?Nothing will work apart from housing. I’m I correct in thinking that fat Buddha has changed hands or at least name?
Not sure but you don’t change names if you are doing well. Tbh the place is in the state it is because it only appeals to people in sr6 mainly and visiting contractors. Any leisure facilities only appeal to people in the summer. The pubs and restaurants that are there are probably about right for the area. Even with the new houses I can’t see this changing. It’s like the bay fish shop it will only be taking custom from the other places down there. The stack will only take custom from the other restaurants and bars.House of Zen innit?
I think you could be right. The only way to service the leisure that’s there currently is to increase the number of people living on the doorstep of it. Saying that, 300 houses will only be probably 600-700 adults with spare income to spend. Say 10% go out of an evening, that’s still only 60-70 people. The Stack, if done right, could become a destination venue as The Palm has. I honestly don’t know how much footfall they can bring to the area by building more leisure. Not sure but you don’t change names if you are doing well. Unfortunately like the high st, coastal areas are not as popular as they once were. Expanding is not the right choice. Look at the beam. Health and safety firm expanding.
Ocado (Internet shopping) expanding
Everyone else is streamlining.
Only option in my opinion is houses loads of them.
Agreed mate. If the stack is done well like these pop up food stalls/bars and bucket and spade shops in the summer it will be a success but only to cost of other business, it will have to be run exceptionally well to become a destination venue, different stuff on every weekend and advertised well.I think you could be right.
