He's a great manager and we are lucky to have him.
I think next season 10th is achievable. Beyond that I think top 8.
As long as Ellis and Martin Bain are on side I think we could be entering in to a settled period for the club. Thank god.

They didn't sack Sam though. They let his contract run and they parted ways. It's was the attitude and behavior of the West Ham fans which gave it an air of a sacking. They were so harsh and ungrateful. You're spot on though. There's a few examples of teams letting go of their managers at the right time. Plenty who haven't too. If we're lucky enough to out grow Sam under his stewardship I hope we can all show our appreciation as we apart ways. We've probably got the best manager out there to stabilise us and I think he will. I want to remember the best and not taint the good job I think he'll do.
 
I think if no changes occur to any teams next season we would come 12-14th in the table. However, a lot is going to depend on changes around other clubs as well. The influx of new money combined with expected wholesale changes at Man U, City, Liverpool and Chelsea causing a knock-on effect there is likely to be a raft of transfer activity during the summer. When the dust settles, I hope we still look competitive as I expect other teams to have more finance to play around with than us.

He has:
  • Settled the team
  • Got rid of the dead wood
  • Recruited some top additions
  • Looked after the bank balance while doing so
  • Got them super fit and kept everyone healthy through his methods
  • Taught us how to defend
  • Built an incredible team sprit
  • Connected the team with the fans
  • Kept us up from a hopeless position and mess that Advocaat left us in
  • All in a very short period of time
I'd say that was great managment

Id say a great manager was SAF, Coughie, Mourinho, Paisley

Allardyce has done a good job.

Imo you're over egging his achievements a tad, sorry quite a bit.

Well that's your definition of 'great'. Of course I am not putting him up there with European Cup winners.

He's a great manager and we are lucky to have him
 
What are his key strengths? I read an old article on The Guardian last week. It was written when he was just appointed by you and I think it's a very decent piece. I just did a search and it was posted on here back then. But still, it's worth a read if you haven't seen it before:

Man management
 
Based on results since the New Year, we should be able to finish round about 13th - 15th with the existing squad, a couple of good signings and we should be able to push on to around 10th - 12th.

West Ham bucked the trend in sacking BSA.
Blackburn, Bolton, Blackpool, That lot all floundered to relegation after he left them.

Agreed apart from it being Advocaat's mess. Dick inherited a mess of a club and willingly stepped aside when he realised he'd struggle to keep us up. Short created the mess with a string of poor appointments at all levels of the club. Got this one right admittedly and thankfully. Not saying it with any dislike for Ellis. He's invested and tried everything he can for the club and I'm eternally grateful. But his inexperience of the game should not make scapegoats of former managers imo. His company at the end of the day, his appointments, his money.

Saying that, now we're moving in the right direction it would be nice to dare to look forward and not dwell on mistakes or the past. We've got the man to stabilise us. Onwards and upwards at last (touch wood) :p
