SAFC and NUFC since the Saudi takeover

The Saudi takeover of Newcastle United F.C. was completed 7 October 2021.
📊 League positions at the moment of takeover

⚫⚪ Newcastle United (Premier League)
19th place (relegation zone)

🔴⚪ Sunderland AFC (League One – 3rd tier)
4th place in League One around the same week

Approx transfer spend since Oct 2021 (taken from Transfermkt site)

Sunderland
~£150-170m
Newcastle
~£550-750m

Newcastle have spent roughly:
4 to 5 times more than Sunderland

So despite ;

- a starting position of 2 divisions above
- spending 4-5 times more money since then

Newcastle have less points and are currently below Sunderland in the Premier League with 9 games of the season left.

Frankly astonishing.
Good to see a post of yours.

I’m still gutted that they are by far the richest club in the world.

However, I’m delighted with our owners and hope they have the knowledge and ability to keep pushing us forward, the will certainly appears to be there.

And, as mentioned on another thread today, we can be proud of our club. I’m not sure that they can honestly say the same thing, when you consider that their owners executed 247 of their own citizens last year for heinous crimes such as being gay and having a twitter account.

I’m still beating you in the not watching the 🦨💩 stakes. I never watch them and I didn’t watch them last night either! 😉😂
Well as i said, i had a soft spot for United and was confident. I should learn. Well I certainly have now!!! The backup button on my tv remote couldn’t have been pressed quicker when the winner went in.🤣

That’s mad that like. Imagine knowing your club was owned by an ACTUAL murderer and tyrant. I know I couldn’t bury my head in the sand for the sake of a few shiny new players. As I referenced earlier, never watch that lot but last night was amazed to see the amount of Saudi advertising, and nothing is ever said about that. It’s so obvious they’re being used but they’re too uneducated to realise it.

Quality research 👏🏻 oh! & FTM

It is an astonishing story …

Not to anyone with a modicum of common sense. It's like the Rabbit v Tortoise race. The Rabbit all cocky and believing speed is the most important thing. The Tortoise taking his time and is more methodical. Who won? We are that Tortoise. The mags foolishly believed you can buy success. If you have a multi-billion owner from a super rich nation anything is possible. They completely forgot to read the line in the book about a long term business strategy built on the three S's *sense", "shrewdness" and "sustainability". Not rushing into things. Taking your time.

But at least they don’t have to put up with an owner who employs people on zero hour contracts.

It’s still astonishing given the previous fifty years I’ve lived through 🤣

Finish above them or not we’ve already got plenty over them this season.

To make the progress we have and be in the position we are with 9 games to go is nothing short of amazing.

They gave us

Relegated, lowest points total
Played no one
Wait till the derby
AFCON

I’m looking forward to the ‘second season syndrome’ being rolled out soon.

Despite all of the above they will celebrate finishing above us (if of course that happens) like they’ve pipped Arsenal to the premier league.

Black and white bastards

I would definitely have preferred to get beat at Wembley in a play off final, instead of a league cup final, yep.

I would definitely prefer to swap the League Cup for the pizza cup, yep.

I would also love to swap playing in Europe, for a few years playing in L1 and the championship also.

You have had by far a better few years than Newcastle. But you are 1 point above us though, so get those wank socks out and fill em up

Bless, did you lose your log in before Christmas? All over it when you beat us in the cup 😂😂😂

Ahh but you have missed the comparison of the “Trophy” hauls over this period

The Geordie Howaybians have won the EFL Cup - popularly known as The Mickey Mouse

Sunderland have won the EFL Trophy - popularly known as The Pizza Cup

Extra half billion to upgrade from Pizza Cup to Mickey Mouse Cup seems a bit extreme

But if we were to somehow finish above them this season….would heads roll?
They did get a "wor mandy"... and she was like a mag lady Di for them ... until she got sacked

Mandy ... queen of hearts ( problems)

It was a hare not a rabbit

They have the richest owners in the world.
That doesn't necessarily make them the richest club.
It all depends on how much the Saudis can be arsed to put in.

They're only in it this year because of a rule change in the middle of last season. In years gone by if a team qualified by winning a cup they took the place of the team who was the lowest qualifier. So 2 rule changes have let them in.

It's utterly ridiculous having 6 English teams in the Champions League.
so if by some chance sunderland qualified for the champions league, you wont be getting behind them.

and will be saying things along the lines "its ridiculous having 6 english teams in the chamions league"

If we qualified by finishing 10th (fairs cup?) I'd be over the moon but it wouldn't change my overall views.

I was brought up on 2 English clubs in the European Cup maximum and only because 1 had won it the previous season. It was a magnificent winner takes all knock out competition where the best of the best competed on a fairly level playing field.

It's absolutely shite but way of comparison now. Unless you like watching nothing games with very little riding on them on a very regular basis.

Honestly?

Yes I would

The way money has corrupted and made meaningless so much of modern football is disturbing I think

Whether it is the ridiculous nonsense of the ECL having only a minority of actual champions playing in it

Parachute payments creating a near closed shop at the top of English football

The ridiculous Trump World Cup finals

Final league placings in the Championship being put to one side for a play off money spinning lottery

Season tickets at some clubs now soaring over two grand

And the fact that “one of our own” has become a rarity as the PL hoovers talent up from around the globe and local academies feed second and third tier clubs

I am actually very relaxed about international workers compared to most people generally. But is it getting out of hand in the English game at the top level?
