Sacking Bruce

Not a weakness at all, I just agree with him. Plenty of managers go on winless runs and getting rid of them doesn't mean you're going to be better off at all.

We'd just lost a bulk of our good players by being sold and them returning on loan (e.g. Bent, Gyan and Welbeck). None of the three I don't think he could do anything about in all honesty. Just look at the Colback situation last year - it doesn't matter who's in charge, if a player wants to leave for whatever reason, it's probably going to happen. Especially if more money is involved.

Our team needed rebuilding. He'd brought Colback and Henderson through from the academy quite well in my opinion. He'd bought Wickham for the future and that's a story that hasn't finished yet. I genuinely believe that he knew what was needed and that he was capable of doing it. He gave himself a bad press with the comments he came out with by alienating himself from the fans; he seemed to bite every time someone mentioned the whole Geordie thing.

Bad business at the time. We weren't, and still aren't imo in a position to spend a lot of money on a player who can't make an immediate impact.

Only teams at the top can afford this luxury, we aren't one of them. For the amunt of money spent on Wickham we needed him to hit the ground running

Well he knew if Welbeck was succesful with us he'd have nee chance of getting him back. He knew Gyan wanted away all summer.

Fair enough with Bent.

I'd rather see us spend on young talent. He was only £2m more than Craig Gardner.

That's not really the point tho is it cos we A) over paid for Gardner and B) he went straight into the 1st team

Wickham was a bad buy at the time for the previous point I made.

I'd also like to see us buy young talent but if Sunderland pay 8 mill for anyone, regardless of their age, they should be straight into the 1st team

Big mistake in hindsight?

I know he's been bitter since and a bit of a kernt,but

We're still playing pretty much a Steve Bruce signings squad.

Best finish for many years.

Brought in some talent for cheap that we then got good money for (sess, bent, gyan, mig, Mcclean)

Had a squad that scored lots of goals when the strikers were in good form, and had some good , albeit overpaid, players in it.

Did we really sack him for a good reason? I know I wanted him out at the end but I honestly can't remember what I had to complain about at the time compared to now!

Right descion at the right time

Anybody who say otherwise fuçking clueless

Said so at the time and still believe that he should have have been sacked at the end of the 2010/11 season. Losing Bent was undoubtedly a huge blow, but the squad should never in a million years have capitulated the way the way it did in the second half of that season.

I'm still not sure whether it was the right decision

I said at the time though that we would struggle to get a manager who would improve on tenth, and that for all people were mocking it at the time they would come to realise how unlikely an achievement it was for a club in our position.

For all his faults, Bruce bought a good number of good players. It's hardly a piece of strategic brilliance to do that you wouldn't think, but the behavior of the managers following him would maybe suggest it is

If you buy as many players he did, law of averages, there'll be a few decent ones in there.

It wasn't a case of improving on 10th - we weren't 10th and were nowhere near 10th.

Bruce was good at signing players, horrendous at implementing them. He would sign players with absolutely no idea where or how to play them - Sess being a good example

Whenever this comes up I just remember that Wigan game which unfortunately is easy to do.

No surprise to me he's doing ok again at a club currently paying above their means on transfer fees and wages.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Given him a budget to finish 7th and he will finish 10th. Give him a budget to finish 10th and he will keep you up. Ask him to using good coaching to keep a club with low budget up and he's relegation all over.

Changing manager so often hasn't helped us as a club. We're no better off than when Keane brought us up.

It's time we got over this 10th place shite. It's 10th place FFS, not Europe, or the Champions League.
We're still here, and we've had a Wembley final, something he didn't think we were worthy of.
