I don’t think anyone’s getting nuked

Some fascinating stories mind of how close it came during the Cold War. Two peoples individual decisions likely avoided a nuclear exchange

Stanislav Petrov

And lesser known but during the Cuban missile crisis

Vasili Akhpovkic

had a quick look around, happy to be corrected:

The US has 14 nuclear armed submarines each capable of carrying 24 nuclear missiles

The UK has 4 subs capable of carrying up to 16(?) nuclear missiles each.

Pretty sure all the above missiles can carry multiple warheads each.

You can bet a fair few of them will be within range of Russia right now

Never mind cruise missiles capable of delivering multiple nuclear warheads by land sea or air.

The nuclear capability of countries like the US, Russia, France and the UK is terrifying
The UK has enough nuclear weapons to destroy the entire planet on it's own, via a post attack nuclear winter. The entire world, not just Russia or places close to the attacks. Everywhere, all life, in dinosaur extinction like conditions.

And yeah, Russia have 50 times as many weapons as us.

They are terrifying weapons, but here we are all talking about them, which is what Putin wanted as he's getting his arse kicked and nuclear fears are his only card.

Wonder how many of Putins ‘men’ are fully behind him. You would hope if he declared he wanted a nuclear launch someone from within would take him out otherwise they die regardless.

Mental we are even having this debate, f***ing hell man.

What is the way out of this?

There is no way the world will stand by and let Russia take over Ukraine. But I can't see any way Putin will back down or accept anything other than victory.

I’ve read various works by peter hennessy on the subject, no PM has said what they wrote for each sub. The best guess from Hennessy was to sail for the American eastern seaboard…

James Callaghan was prime minister from 1976-1979. He's the only former leader to reveal what he would've done.
"If we had got to that point where it was, I felt, necessary to do it - then I would have done it," he told a BBC documentary in 1988.
"I've had terrible doubts of course about this. And I say to you that if I had lived after having pressed that button, I would never, never have forgiven myself."
