Sadly if the West throws everything at Putin in terms of sanctions as soon as he invades then they have no where else to go and he has little left to lose in going further then Ukraine.
If he assumes the West won’t use force then once he loses his economy, Nordstream etc… what else would dissuade him from going further into Eastern Europe
If the West don’t offer an exit route he may well just keep the tanks rolling
Cost I think. Wars are expensive, he has had to modernise a very depleted army, which he has and has done to be fair, but while going through sanctions and the country is not that rich to start with.
His country has been hit quite bad with COVID as well, and if he attacks, it's borderline global sanctions, although China will still buy their gas I would think.
Im starting to think he is going to attack Ukraine. It will be nasty for Ukraine, he has a strong army for initial attacks and the first wave will be a show of strength but will dwindle I think if things get drawn out, purely down to economic resources. China again may economically back them up.
Hopefully, Ukraine have been kitted out with really good defensive supplies and their army has been practising for this for a while.
I'm concerned with the global batshitness around at the minute that it spills over into something more global.
Hopefully it's a massive bluff and everyone can agree to something that diffuses the situation.
