Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Quality vs quantity. In numbers no but in technology we are streets ahead. It’s not just what we spend but our alliances with the US and Europe that means our R and D costs are also shared.

The most advanced fighter jet in the World is the F35 lightning. The Russians don’t have anything close and what they did develop was a cheap alternative.

The Russians don’t have anything near our aircraft carrier strike group capabilities.

They don’t have anything near our wider naval capabilities. The Type 45 is the most advanced warship ever produced.

They have significant numbers of equipment and do have good missile capabilities particularly with their hypersonic weapon development.

But we are never going to fight a ground war with Russia so really hard power is projected by naval and air forces. Both of which us and the US have what is generally acknowledged to be the best in the World. Russia despite their modernisation programme is not close.

Outside of nuclear weapons could Russia do any damage to the US or it’s mainland. Maybe only by attacking it’s close proximity overseas bases. The US on the other hand could cause untold damage to Russia via its forward operating bases and naval and air power.

It will never happen so it’s a pointless argument. But I don’t think any expert would say Russia is even close to the capabilities the West have where it matters
Is the SU-57 no good? One particular area where the Russians outperform use is jamming, pretty useful tool.

Not in comparison to the F35 according to experts. It has numerous problems and they are improving it even replacing the engine. But it’s not a match for what the West has and there are very few actually build in the Russian Air Force. Only 4 in active service apparently

lol, I guess we'll find out if thats true should Russia ever decide to bomb Portsmouth

:-)

as for the rest, yes we have a quality edge but all the ships in the world wont stop Russian tanks on the Ukraine border, and the 750 or so F35's and 200 F22's cant be everywhere at once

and finally - if we're never going to fight a ground war with Russia then what is all the fuss about

Looks like it’s imminent. Both Donetsk and Lukansk being evacuated to Russia.

After the pretext of false information that Ukrainian soldiers were trying to cause a mass casualty event

Putins get out is going to be Russia formally taking control of the two separatist areas isn't it?

been reading your posts, some very interesting points of view,
Would China side with Russia and what would China bring to the table?

Yes I think so. Tbh Ukraine should agree then join Nato as no way they can ever trust Russia again.
NATO provide advisors in Ukraine then fast track membership
Haway vlad show us if you think you are hard enough

China is about capable of invading Taiwan although that would be a bloodbath. Against the US navy it hasn't got a cat in hell's chance. America still has a agreement to come to the aid of Taiwan if it is attacked so it would be just the excuse the Americans want.

China and Taiwan has always struck me as a funny one

you're right, it'd be a bloodbath - probably overwhelming missile attacks with a massive amphib landing and carnage

but China's stated aim has always been to reclaim the 'wayward child' - you dont do that by flattening the island though
