Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES) - Please put sensitive content behind a spoiler

BBC article suggesting that the Russians are getting a bit smarter and combining artillery, tanks and air better.

Dangerous assumption thinking they'd be thick as mince forever. They still have a huge force, massive amounts of ordinance and plenty of cannon fodder who they'll use to find UKR positions

The idea of hordes of Russian yokels charging machine gun nests and getting shot down again and again only applies to video games

When you have a big enough number advantage, there’s a kind of Darwin effect where whoever is left get very good at surviving while those giving the commands learn from sheer repetition. This is how the Soviets wore down the Nazis - attrition

Ultimately RF conscripts and troops outnumber UKR 8 to 1 or more and Putin hasn’t imploded… yet

The Russians are throwing sheer weight of numbers at it. Ukraine can’t match them man for man
On paper, Ukraine currently have a 3:1 manpower advantage. A lot of those will - unfortunately (I'd have NATO troops doing this) - be guarding the northern borders against further incursions from Belarus but the rest will be assembling somewhere for the next offensive.

Rubbish. Russia has 325k troops in Ukraine, to Ukraine's 900k.

You're right when it comes to invading their territory. They're not brilliant at offensives and they're no good at all on hearts and minds. They're just a pure blunt force who have a crazy capacity for losses.
They did learn though in ww2 after taking a massive pummelling from the Germans.
Operation Bagration one of the most successful offensives of all time. Totally destroyed Army Group Centre.

Presumably he meant total?

So Russia are just going to leave a 14,000 mile border and all their military installations undefended?

Do they even have the logistics to support that number of people fighting in Ukraine?

Russian propagandists would love you to believe they're better than the ineptitude they've shown so far. In that route lies defeatism and a peace treaty that rewards their aggression.
A limited POV

The RF has already conscripted hundreds of thousands of troops and could conscript millions more as and when needed

And many of those people might simply leave the country like 750k before them.

Ukraine could conscript millions more. They could also get them trained to NATO standards.

I’m not quite clear how many troops Ukraine have deployed and fighting in the country.

But yes part of the challenge of Ukraine is they have had to build layered defence in cities across the country. Kiyv, Dnipro, Odessa etc… will all have significant forces stationed there plus other cities across the country.

I’m sure the Ukrainians are also preparing for a Southern offensive. Those 60k troops that descended on Kherson will end up somewhere.

Think the next area to watch will be the Kremina - Svatove area. Ukraine had been making incremental gains toward encircling the town there but Russia has deployed VDV troops there to stem the advance, which has worked.

Now believed they have forced there to launch a counter attack.
