Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

Because they can write it off very very easily if it's a gamble that doesn't pay off. We can't. It's not a difficult thing to understand.

What is difficult to understand is why this club isn’t paying the best CF in the division what he deserves. Do you think we have a far better chance of a top six finish with Stewart in the side? I do. Southampton want him because he is a class act at this level, they don’t want him for the fun of it do they. Stewart with a new contract will be worth more to us next summer and shouldn’t be sold if we have any real ambition.

Where did Mowbray say we offered 15k a week? That’s where I’m confused.

You said previously that Mowbray said we’ve offered the maximum we can, but that could be 20k for all we know?

Again, it’s all guesswork - no point criticising the club over it.
He also said that there were 3 other players on the financial limit of what we could offer. And there are 3 players at our club on 15k. Not hard to find this info and make this assumption. Stewart’s agent also quoted as saying it’s a discussion over 250k a year.

Ross Stewart would need to get us 2 additional league places to pay for his annual salary from the prize money alone. Even if he plays 10 games he probably gets us 4-5 points, which would get us several places without a doubt

And that’s before you factor in actual football benefits to having him around
You do seem to know the inner financial workings of contract offers mind. Truth is, no one on here knows what he's asked for or been offered.

Lihadji will have gone for cash no? Not disagreeing with your point just pointing out we should have received something for him.

Aye, fair point and an oversight on my part.

Apologies.

That said it will still be very minimal in comparison to what the biggest spenders in the division this summer have brought in.

He won’t walk. He’s working from home for the first time in decades and there’s compo in being sacked. Walking is a black mark on your CV. He won’t want to be lobbing his CV in at Walsall, Preston and Cambridge etc
There’s no chance mowbray would walk , settled in the north east it’s a great job for him. Only way I can ever see him wanting to leave is if boro continue their bad start and carrick gets the chop

If you could provide me the info, I’ll take it back.

As long as the info isn’t just some random website.

Losing a £40m player over a 250k a year salary increase is the very definition of unambitious

Yep, and been £100m better off
Let's be honest here, he's not commanding 40 million unless he scores 60 goals in the championship, and even then he's 27.

It's nothing to do with ambition, their long term ambition is getting to the Premier League.

You think Luton Town were paying their players 10k p/w in league 2?

With a fit Ross Stewart? Anyone's got a chance. Do we know he's going to be the same player? absolutely not. Can we afford to put him on a 4 year deal on the same wages Southampton are offering and then risk the injuries again? Absolutely not. It's a gamble Southampton can afford and one we can't, that's the top and bottom of it. Not to mention, if Ross Stewart wanted to be a Sunderland player after this transfer window it would've been sorted out by now.

Imagine thinking Piroe is better than Stewart man.

Gyokeres just went for £25m, Stewart could easily be worth that - and then more when you get him off the last year of his contract, Ala the Gyokeres situation. Just because Swansea sold low doesn’t Mean we have to
piroe has acchied much mroe in this division that stewart and is much younger...gyorkes is younger than stewart..was not £25mn it was more like £19mn..what has stewrat done to make him worth twice gyorkes,..given gyorkes has achievd much more at a younger age?

You only have to benchmark this against other transfers to see how crazy the market is

So you have just claimed that Stewart getting us 2 additional league places pays for his annual salary. That's is f***ing laughably out and you expect to be taking seriously on financials.

How are these pittance amounts paying his annual salary?:lol:

The prize money on offer in the Championship is comparatively little, with the winner expected to pick up around £100,000, and the second placed team £50,000. Thereafter, prize money drops in increments, with the side finishing bottom of the EFL Championship (Barnsley last season) earning around £7,000 in prize money.
