Running Thread 2026

Found the Boston’s just a little too narrow for my flat, wide feet. Enjoy!
I’m currently running races in metaspeed edge Paris, thinking of upgrading to the Tokyo’s for Elche HM but the difference between Edge and Sky is just mental to decide on which is better.

Apparently one is for those who increase cadence, one for those how lengthen stride. I do both apparently. Minefield.
I seem to have unfussy feet haha, never had a problem with any running trainers I've worn. Evo SLs still the nicest trainer I've used nice and bouncy, the next version is meant to be releasing soon apparently

The SL Woven’s are out and meant to be a better upper. I couldn’t get onboard with the SL’s mainly as I was using the superblast or megablasts and I love them. But the reviews of the wovens look great and the new release later this year looks top drawer! No doubt they’ll increase the price point though, which obviously made them so attractive in the first place.

Done mr first half marathon in about 16 months this morning paced myself at 9:30’s all the way round. I’m f***ing delighted.
Good work. Make sure to stretch, rest up and eat well. Hopefully an injury free year for you.

Had a stinker of a run yesterday, was meant to be a training block run with an HM 6k in between and the wind just got into my head. Ended up doing about 11/12k. And an easy 19km this evening in better conditions.

Looking at the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4’s for my HM trainer, out in feb. Either those or stick with the Meta Edge Tokyo. Torn, fewer options for a heel/midfoot striker in the carbon category I find

Cheers mate. I’m a bit sore but nothing unexpected.

Pier to pier entries open Monday coming.
Any idea how much it was last year?

It’s the one local race I want to do this year

Wondered why I'd had no notifications on the running thread but forgot a new one starts each year.
After 4ish months of back knee problems got back out running in Dec.
Got my first ultra in march - the Northumbria coastal one so am on a condensed training plan and keeping my fingers crossed I get round as I'm only going ahead with it as I'm running for charity.
No other runs planned as I'm waiting for a hysterectomy but I am in the 2nd chance ballot for Berlin marathon drawn mar/Apr.
I'm slow so my goal is really to get back to regular sub 30 parkruns but health is making faster runs more difficult. Having said that I've thoroughly enjoyed bumbling around parkruns just chattering away and not killing myself every week 🤣. Belated happy new year everyone.

Having missed out on the great north run in both ballots. Im going to do the membership so I can tick it off. Does it reopen every year or do I have to wait for the 2 year ones from last year to expire?

Rolled my ankle Wednesday evening on these slack as fk pavements the council think are fit for purpose. Can put weight on it but missed Thursday and Friday easy runs and can’t do park run or anything today either. 7 weeks until elche, so frustrated.

New HM event in Hartlepool, May 31st. Route isn't confirmed but imagine it'll go around the Headland and down Seaton Carew then back.

2 weeks after Sunderland 10k and 2 weeks before the Windermere Marathon for me, so think it'll be perfect for my last effort before the taper

Nice plan mate. Gonna have a look at that

Still going 19 days in. Onto a 4.8km route now. Found a natural pace which leaves me with enough in the tank for a final sprint. The little shin/calf niggles seem to have eased up now thankfully.
Finally finished run 31/31. Finished with the shorter route we started with around the river. 2.9km, 4:52/km. Bosh.
Wouldn't say I've 'enjoyed' it, but I've definately enjoyed the benefits; weight loss, more energy, unreal leg muscles .
Agreed to continue but with only doing 1x 5k a week for the forseeable.

30:04 at Darlington for me this morning so perhaps my sub 30s are not too far away. 17 mile long run tomorrow.
Might have a look at Hartlepool half as I cant do Middlesbrough as it's the week before my ultra, but there's also a 10 mile trail outlaws event in Durham I fancied and not sure if Hartlepool's the same weekend.

Were you doing a January run streak? Have you tried parkrun?

Yeah, everyday for Jan. Started with just under 3km, gradually built up to 6km and then back down again as we neared the end. Never done a parkrun yet, I coach my little lads team on Saturdays and Sunday are matchdays.

When they initially opened it for entries there was a route map on it & it was basically the usual Marina 5 Mile start & route along the promenade continuing along tees Road towards the power station then back to Station Lane & up to Golden Flatts Roundabout then left along Brenda Road towards the power station the back the same way towards promenade & back along that to the Marina & finish line. The closest point to the Headland was the start.
If that's the actual route there'll be some "interesting" smells because it will take in the landfill site twice, the front for the chemical weapons factory known as Kerry Foods & the sewage treatment plant.

Aye I work in the general area so some of my after work runs go past Kerry Foods, couldn't imagine working there like
